The Artist Behind the Paintings

🎨 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: JACKLYN McINTEE | PART 4

Six years after discovering painting, Jacklyn McIntee still approaches every canvas as an opportunity to learn something new.

She continues taking workshops both in person and online, painting with other artists, and challenging herself to grow with each new piece.

That same connection with people is one of the things she enjoys about being part of spARTa Works Gallery—finding inspiration among fellow artists and talking with visitors who are curious about the artwork and how it was created.

Perhaps that’s fitting for an artist whose work encourages us to look a little closer.

Jacklyn began painting because she discovered something new after retirement.

She keeps painting because there is always something new to discover.

The Art of Plein Air

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: JACKLYN McINTEE | PART 3

Imagine setting up your easel outside—and knowing the scene you came to paint isn't going to wait for you.

The sun moves. Shadows change. Clouds roll in. Colors shift.

That’s part of what makes plein air painting—painting outdoors from life—so compelling.

Jacklyn McIntee paints both in her studio and outdoors, where she works to capture the fleeting effects of light and shadow in natural and urban landscapes.

And oil is the medium she loves.

Its rich color, slow drying time, and what Jacklyn describes as its wonderful “buttery feel” give her the flexibility to work and rework a scene as it develops.

The next time you see someone standing outside with an easel, take a closer look.

Finding Beauty in the Ordinary

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: JACKLYN McINTEE | PART 2

A farm field. A market. A riverbank. A familiar building.

Jacklyn McIntee finds inspiration in places many of us might pass without a second glance.

Much of it comes while hiking and biking with her husband, when she has time to really observe the world around her. Those everyday scenes become the subjects of paintings that invite us to stop and notice them, too.

That idea is at the heart of Jacklyn’s work:

There is beauty in the ordinary—if we slow down long enough to see it.

And sometimes, the subject is something as simple as an avocado.
