Artist, Teacher & Part of the Art Community

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: PEG BAUMANN | PART 4

For Peg Baumann, art isn't only about creating something to hang on a wall. It's also about sharing it.

Peg teaches painting and sketching to students of all levels, accepts commission work, and serves as president of the Rouge River Artists Association. Her artwork has also appeared at ArtPrize and other events.

And being part of spARTaWorks Gallery gives her another kind of connection. What does she enjoy most while she's here?

Meeting the people who collect, enjoy and support local artists.
Peg hopes people leave the gallery inspired to learn more about the arts—and that's a pretty fitting way to end our month getting to know her.

Come see Peg's work in person at:
spARTaWorks Gallery
201 E Division Ave., Suite E
Sparta, MI 49345

And the next time Peg is your gallery host, ask her about her artwork. You may learn something you couldn't discover just by looking at the painting.

Texture Changes Everything

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: PEG BAUMANN | PART 3

Some paintings are meant to be seen from across the room.
Some make you want to walk right up to them.

Peg Baumann has noticed that her relief paintings tend to do exactly that.

By incorporating texture and multiple media, Peg can give a painting a physical dimension that a photograph doesn't fully capture. It's one of the more unusual parts of her work—and something she says often attracts people's attention.

And here's something else you might not expect about Peg's process.

When she thinks a painting may be finished, she steps back and looks at it in a mirror.

Seeing the composition reversed gives her another way to judge whether it needs those last few details.

Next time you're at spARTaWorks Gallery, don't just look at Peg's work from a distance.

Get close enough to see the texture.
