Volunteers Needed for Music on Main – July 4th!

It takes a community to make Music on Main a success, and we need your help for our biggest event of the summer!

Whether you can spare an hour or an entire evening, we’d love to have you join us as we welcome The Entertainers and celebrate Independence Day in downtown Sparta.

Volunteer Opportunities:
• 2:30–3:00 PM – Meet at the BDC and help load supplies (truck owners especially appreciated!)
• 3:00–5:00 PM – Event setup, stages, Arts Council booth, and artisan vendor assistance
• 5:00–7:00 PM – Staff the Arts Council booth and help sell Music on Main T-shirts
• 7:00–9:00 PM – Staff the Arts Council booth and help sell Music on Main T-shirts
• 9:00–10:00 PM – Event breakdown and return supplies to the BDC
• Additional volunteers are also needed to assist at the kids Dilly Dally Alley throughout the evening.

Music on Main is one of Alleghany County’s favorite summer traditions, and it simply wouldn’t happen without volunteers. If you’ve enjoyed the concerts, now is a great time to give back and help us create another memorable evening for our community.

🐻 BEAR ACTIVITY ALERT 🐻

The Alleghany County Sheriff's Office has received an increase in bear-related complaints throughout the county in recent weeks. Sheriff Glenn contacted the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and they have provided resources to help residents safely coexist with black bears.

Bears are often attracted to easy food sources around homes. Residents are encouraged to:

• Secure trash and garbage containers
• Remove bird feeders when bears are active
• Never feed or approach bears
• Avoid leaving pet food outdoors
• Clean grills and outdoor cooking areas regularly
• Secure livestock feed and other attractants
• Be mindful when letting your pets outside, especially during the early morning and nighttime hours when bears are most active.

I have a bag of Alum Granulated Powder (Food Grade) that did not work on my project as it should have and I had to buy different Alum. Would any crafters or picklers like the rest of the bag (no charge)?
