Getting real.
This set up took me two and a half hours to set up. And almost an hour to take down. I had only been set up for a half hour before the market was suddenly covered in rain despite the radar showing blue skies.
It wasn’t fun to pack up while being soaked to the bone. But it had to be done. It’s a part of the business. It’s my fault I didn’t have my walls with me.
I lost income because of it.
But at the end of the day, I would rather protect the quality of my craft and the thousands of hours invested into it.
There’s always another day. There’s always another event.
I’ve been doing shows for years. For the first 6 years of shows I didn’t even know rechargeable fans existed for those 80-90 degree days. Now I have two. And one of them stays charged for over 24 hours of use.
For the first 6 years I didn’t own walls for my canopy, let alone 130lbs of weight to hold it down. I’ve purchased more stands and cheap baskets than I can count. Wasted money on cheap starter stuff rather than invest into high quality.
It’s a journey. A journey that I sometimes abhore. The packing up and unloading. The constant peopling. The ADHD exhaustion after the event and still having to be a mom.
Life is messy. Life is a missed sale and packing up early to protect your business. Life is a learning experience.
