It's our drive-through graduation today! If you want to watch, here's a link to the live stream! (Sorry it's late, they just sent it out.) Congratulations to our wonderful Seniors! This has been the hardest working group of Seniors I've ever worked with! I'm very sad our time together was cut short but am proud of how they've persevered through this trying time.

This is the official live stream of the 2020 Diploma Day Celebration for Spanish Springs High School's Class of 2020!

On our Showtix page we have a donation page for students going to ITF. Students have to pay $826 to register and more than $600 on their flight. We would really appreciate the help getting kids to ITF. If you want your money to go towards a certain student, please select them where it says "Credit Ticket Sales To:" If the student you've selected doesn't need the money (because theirs is already paid) or decides not to attend, your money will be given to the student with the lowest total.

Our Wizard of Oz sales will begin March 16th on the same site!

In addition to being chosen as Nevada’s Chapter Select, we had some other things going on! State changed a bit this year, so there weren’t as many individual students competing to go on to Internationals, they already qualified at our Regional event in December. Tod Warner, Kirsten Duvall, Crystal Holmes, and Abigail Bernard competed in Showcase Auditions. We don’t receive scores for that and only those auditioning are allowed in the room, so we’re not sure how they did, but they’re already qualified to go to Internationals. We’re sure they did great.

Sydney Berg won a scholarship from her participation in a workshop with The Open Jar Institute. She and Christiane Munda were lucky and their names were drawn for their full ITF registration to be paid. They only drew 2 students and they were both from our school! Lucky Ducks!

Kylee Morse ran and was selected to be a State Thespian Officer. STO's are the student leaders for NV Thespians and plan and run our conferences throughout the year. It’s pretty competitive and they only selected 11 that ran. Jj Sanchez finished her last event as a State Thespian Officer this year and I was told by several members of the NV Thespian Board how much they would miss her, her hard work, and her leadership.

Ben Hamilton won the Best Thespian Award for all the work he does for our program. He helps coordinate student technicians for groups using our theatre, he co-directed the One Act, and he’s our stage manager this year. He works really hard to make our program run smoothly. He’s pretty much my assistant director and does anything he can to help me, often anticipating my needs.

We had a lot of fun at State and are proud of our accomplishments this year!

We are honored to announce that we performed our one act at State last weekend and were chosen to be Nevada's Chapter Select! That means we take our One Act to Internationals in Indiana!

This was an entirely student produced production and we are proud of what our students accomplished. We're honored to have been selected and are looking forward to representing Nevada at Internationals.

This weekend we hosted the Northern Nevada Thespians Regional event at our school! Students from Washoe County and the surrounding area came to compete in several theatre events including one acts, solo, duet, and group acting and musical theatre scenes, and technical events. We had 13 students participate in Individual Events and each scored in the top 2 sections of the rubric, an Excellent or a Superior.

These students earned the second highest score on the rubric:
• Lea Beaubien in Contrasting Monologues
• Jonathan Grube in Contrasting Monologues
• Gina Hoang in Contrasting Monologues
• Tod Warner in Contrasting Monologues
• Ben Hamilton and Crystal Holmes in Duet Scene
• Gina Hoang and Abigail Bernard in Duet Scene
• Rebecca Gardner and Jj Sanchez in Duet Scene
• Tyler Heath in Solo Musical
• Kylee Morse and Jonathan Grube in Duet Musical

These students earned the highest score on the rubric and advance to perform at the International Thespian Festival:
• Abigail Bernard in Contrasting Monologues*
• Crystal Holmes in Contrasting Monologues*
• Rebecca Gardner is Solo Musical
• Sydney Berg in Solo Musical
• Kirsten Duvall in Solo Musical*
• Tod Warner in Solo Musical*
• Jj Sanchez and Sydney Berg in Duet Musical

* These students scored in the Top 10% of all who performed are invited to compete to showcase at State and compete for a scholarship to the International Thespian Festival.

A part of Regionals is performing a One Act. We performed Dead Men Don’t Jaywalk and we received a Superior and the highest score, so our One Act will compete with the other Regional winners at State at the end of February. If we win there we’ll move on to perform at the International Thespian Festival. This is an entirely student produced play and was under the direction of Ben Hamilton and Tyler Heath. The following students participated in the show as actors an technicians:

Jonathan Grube, Kirsten Duvall, Willow Rocchi, Rebecca Gardner, Tod Warner, Cassandra Macon, Abigail Bernard, Riley Ogden, Alyssa VanOrnum, Crystal Holmes, Kylee Morse, and Gina Hoang.

I’m extremely proud of our students for receiving high scores in their Individual Events and the One Act, but they also were very helpful to keep Regionals running smoothly. We’ve never hosted Regionals before, but we ran it like we were pros. Members of the National Honor Society volunteered to serve as timers, door guards, and play music for Individual Events. We couldn’t have hosted our event without their help. They kept the halls quiet and helped the judges in the IE rooms. We’re also grateful to teachers that let us use their rooms for our Individual Events.

Thank you Nevada Thespians and the other WCSD Theatre Teachers for an awesome event! It's great to get together and give our students the opportunity to perform and get feedback on their work! Thank you for giving our students this opportunity!
