Part 2 is finally here. 😅
I said I was posting this like two weeks ago, but our whole family got sick and then I kept re-editing the video trying to make it less boring. Just fast forward through it lol
One thing we’ve changed since losing those chickens is that we only free range now while we’re outside working or doing evening chores. They go in at dusk and get closed up before we head inside for the night.
Homesteading has been a huge learning curve for us. My heart genuinely breaks for the chickens we lost to our own naivety. We’re new to this life, and there’s a lot you just don’t know until you live it.
I know the fox is doing what foxes do. At the same time, these animals are still our responsibility to protect, and that’s part of raising livestock that people don’t always see. I’m not willing to keep my chickens locked up 24/7 any more than I’d keep my dog inside his whole life just because there are risks outside.
It’s all a learning process over here, and if sharing this helps another new homesteader avoid learning this lesson the hard way, then that’s a win. We assume we’re safe from predators just because we haven’t seen one yet. ❤️
