The Big Purple Barn is home to the artwork created by Kyle Haines, self-styled old soul and weirdo extraordinaire. Using a keen sense of calamity and a remarkably high level of accident-prone-ness, Kyle turns things that many people see as junk into slightly less j***y pieces of junk. Rust is always a big player in Kyle's sculptural pursuits, which include his signature oil-can flowers, inspired b
y the artist's love of flora and antiques. Besides rust, viewers will see a large selection of antique tin cans that have been, using various bits of hardware and globs of solder, turned into all sorts of creatures, people, and monsters. Those creations are all part of an ongoing series known as "Gottes Goldener Abfall," or loosely translated, "God's Golden Garbage." Although Kyle works mostly with metal, he continues to maintain a healthy connection with photography - his first love. Besides that, Kyle is also a budding glassworker, continually learning new ways to turn glass into art. He'll step into almost anything and do his best to please. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any ideas in mind! The Big Purple Barn is sort of a vision of the future.... The artist, Kyle Haines, sees himself living in or near Lancaster, PA. He'll have a decent sized plot of land with a smallish house set back a ways from the road. There'll be a rose-garden and plenty of strange and beautiful flowers otherwise. The property will be lined with raspberry and blackberry bushes. A loyal, obedient dog runs across the yard when Kyle pulls up the driveway in a baby blue 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle. And there, watching over it all, a humongous purple barn that holds every piece of hardware and equipment Kyle needs to make his heart's desire. A forge, a miniature sort of auto body, woodworking equipment, room for painting, glasswork, any sort of art he'll ever need to create bring his visions to life. The Big Purple Barn is a dream, a beautiful, perfect dream.
