Finished today: #1513, OIL, 14 X 18
“ Moonrise Bass River, Wianno Senior on an Incoming Tide”. It is very similar but a bit smaller to an earlier painting I did, but the tides and time are different. In this painting, it is earlier, and there is still more light on the water and in the atmosphere.

Driving to and from the Gallery I catch a glimpse sometimes of someone working in their garden as I drive by, lovely compositions that i’d love to photograph but can’t because I’m driving. I only have a moment to note what I’m seeing and keep my eyes on the road. When I get to the Gallery or back home at night, I sketch what I can remember. It’s the person’s posture that tells the story that captures me & I’ve been wanting to do some little sketches of these in oil. Finally, today I got around to painting this one. There’s a lot I have to invent like these huge red and pink hibiscus flowers that are so brilliantly red and pink that they seem to be edged in black & are very popular here. I’d like to do two or three of them and call the little series, the Gardens of Bass River because people here in Bass River have really lovely gardens in front of their homes and along the river.
Little painted sketches like this one are also a break from the bigger paintings I’m working on that require a lot more attention and work.
#1515, Oil, 6 X 6. Still needs a little work.

I love doing the river and boat scenes, but I get great satisfaction when people see themselves in my figures, in my paintings of people

Thank you, Michelle
This painting hung for many years in my home, but when paintings sell at the Gallery and the walls start getting too many bare spots I have to give up some of my personal collection. One fun thing is that my paintings very often leave the state and travel all the way north and south, and from east to west across the country. I like to imagine sunlight, shiny on them in their new homes.

Thankfully, everyone liked my first version of this painting, but I just needed to see it in this format and composition.
#1512, OIL, 12X 16. I worked from some different photos this time as well. It’s a good thing to see especially on this very sad 25th anniversary of 911, the innocence and goodness in the world in the smiles of little children.
