I get a lot of comments and compliments about the little Rafiki statue that always sits on my table when I’m face painting. Kids often ask why he’s there, so I thought I’d share the story behind him.

Five years ago, when I first started this business, I signed up for one of my very first events. I was excited, but also pretty nervous. My daughter Alyssa came along with me, as she often does when I’m working events.

To my delight, a line started to form, and I was thrilled! While I was busy painting smiling faces, Alyssa wandered off to explore the other vendor booths. She came across a table selling figurines, and one immediately caught her eye: Rafiki.

She knew right away, “My mom needs this.”

She bought him and proudly brought him back to me. I placed him on my table to watch over me while I painted, and that’s exactly where he has sat ever since.

To me, Rafiki represents the very beginning of Handful Of Fortunes. He reminds me of the kindness, love, and encouragement my children have always shown me. More than that, he symbolizes the unwavering support of my family.

This business would not exist without them, and I am endlessly grateful for every bit of love and support they’ve given me along the way. 🥹❤️
