Excited to announce our film Coming Clean, A Demand for a Fossil Free UC made the official selection at the San Diego Environmental Film Festival and will be screening along with other amazing documentaries on November 19th.

Our film has been instrumental in the recent allocation of funds from UCOP to start a path toward decarbonization beyond carbon neutrality at the University of California. We are happy to share it with all of you.

Coming Clean, A Demand for a Fossil-free UC was co-directed by Carolina Montejo and Andre Salehian for the Green New Deal at UCSD
This film explores issues surrounding and its relation to fossil fuel dependency, the carbon offset market, and carbon neutrality. Through the lens of two UC alumni climate advocates, the film follows their trip through the state of California as they visit some of the most prominent UCs and interview expert professors, students, labor union representatives, and environmental justice advocates from different parts of Los Angeles, The Bay Area, Bakersfield, and San Diego.

Coming Clean addresses why the trending market of carbon offsets is allowing corporations and institutions to avoid taking genuine responsibility in the face of climate change. By including perspectives from diverse movements from across California, Coming Clean shows the overlap of the environmental movement with that of social justice, labor, and climate action, as well as the importance of local mobilization and people demanding change where they have a voice.

Andre Salehian is a videographer, climate justice advocate, and media creator with a BA in Business from UCSD. Andre is passionate about gender, racial, and climate justice and has been a Freelance video maker for the past 5 years. In 2019, Salehian Co-created 'This Is the Deal' alongside Carolina Montejo, and in 2021 they Co-created Coming Clean: A Demand for a Fossil Free UC. Andre focuses on cinematography and editing and is currently the head videographer at online health and therapy startup.

Marty Davis is an Animator and illustrator whose credits include co-director on THQ's Ratatouille video game for Disney/Pixar, which won the Annie for Best Video Game Animation of the year. Clients have included Mass Animation, Fox Television, Cirque de Soleil, Sony, and DC Comics. Currently designing and directing animation for film and commercial projects, and teaching Animation and Illustration for Fullerton College.
