Great news! Dan Blakeslee and the Calabash Club will be opening for James Maddock this Thursday! This is shaping up to be an amazing evening full of great vibes and even greater music.

Dan is an inspired, veteran performer with a touch of genius to him. He “ventured into the subways of Boston in 1995 to practice his craft, and has been making music and art throughout New England ever since. He’s toured the U.S. with Langhorne Slim, The Low Anthem, David Wax Museum, Lydia Loveless, The Lumineers, Old 97′s, Brown Bird, Josh Ritter, Death Vessel and Kimya Dawson among others. In 2015 his dream of playing Newport Folk Festival became a reality. Blakeslee is unafraid to bare his very soul on stage, emptying a loaded cache of emotion and passion onto the stage for all to witness, explore and devour."

Well, this has been a hell of a month so far, and unfortunately I’m sorry to say that there won’t be any Rivergigs this fall to boot…

BUT! This is because we’re knee-deep organizing an all-Mainer showcase of 12 musicians at NERFA (Northeast Regional Folk Alliance). (Sorry, this one's only for conference attendees - but there are some related public shows too - see below).

I went tp NERFA a few years ago, and wow! What an incredible time. They had gathered about 350 people together for 4 days in a hotel including ridiculously talented musicians, presenters, promoters, agents, managers, DJs, and others, including mini performances in over 30 rooms well into the night.

Well, this year they decided to have it in Portland! So I dove in headfirst and produced the showcase from the attached flyer, “Rivergigs: A Mainers’ Welcome,” on Friday Nov. 22 from 10:30pm - 2:30am.

Speaking of the flyer - isn’t it gorgeous? It’s designed by Jenny Woodward, who donated her considerable talent to help get the Rivergigs message out to our community. If you ever need a graphic designer, check out her website here or go to jenny_woody on Instagram, or just go ahead and reach out to her at [email protected]. You won’t be disappointed!

Anyway, the bad news is… this showcase isn’t public. You have to plunk down a $350 registration fee for the whole conference in order to attend any of it. (Though knowing you guys, I bet there are a few out there tempted to go for it. If you’re into live music, well… it really can’t be beat. It’s like having backstage passes to hundreds of shows).

But the good news is… many of the cream of this already-impressive crop will be performing at One Longfellow Square (OLS) this week, the beautiful listening room which most of you know. All the details are in the flyer in the first comment, or just head over to OLS’s website.

Hope to see you out there. Lord knows we need more community gatherings these days.

Take care,
Andy

Damn, I miss so much having y'all over for amazing music.

We were supposed to have the transcendent Annie Sumi here on Nov. 22; doubt that'll happen now. We'll probably do an online gig though. Stay tuned.

Big hugs to all in this time of nuttiness!
