For over fifteen years, South Pasadena Theatre Workshop has been home to stories, classes, rehearsals and performances.

Though presently we are closing our doors to production at our El Centro space, our passion for storytelling and community remains strong. Please continue to look for our communication as we navigate our way forward.

Follow the incredible adventures of our handsome hero Richard Hannay, complete with stiff-upper-lip, British gung-ho and pencil moustache as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women. This wonderfully inventive and gripping comedy thriller features four fearless actors, playing 100 roles in 80 minutes of fast-paced fun and thrilling action.

DID YOU KNOW... The 39 Steps was originally a novel by John Buchan published in 1915 that was later adapted into a 1935 British spy thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Academy Award winning actor Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll. Patrick Barlow later adapted The 39 Steps as a play.

Our amazing cast includes: Andrew Tippie* as Richard Hannay, Destini Huston as Annabella Schmidt/Pamela/Margaret, and Jeremy Schaye as Clown 1. Sam Cass* and Austin Hall will alternate as Clown 2. Sydney Walsh returns to direct after critically-acclaimed productions of Anton Chekhov’s, The Seagull, and Nöel Coward’s, Hay Fever.
