AI Irony

One of the first times many people, especially in the music industry, became of aware of/nervous over AI was when the track, Heart on My Sleeve, more commonly referred to as "fake Drake" dropped with vocals that sounded exactly like Drake even though he had nothing to do with it.

Now, Drake has dropped his own track, called Taylor Made, which uses AI generated vocals of Snoop and Tupak.

Tupak's estate is not pleased, to say the least.

THE STREAMING ROYALTY SYSTEM IS BROKEN.

It will not be easy to fix.

Many are very upset about a proposal from Spotify to increase royalties to some by not paying out royalties on tracks that have not streamed at least 1000 times.

Is that an issue?

According to a recent article in musicbusinessworldwide.com, although there are about 120,000 new tracks uploaded EVERY DAY, 152.2 Million tracks did not stream at least 1000 times in 2023. That is about 83% of the roughly 184 Million tracks that the reporting party (Luminate) looked at.

What is more eye-opening is that nearly 25% of all tracks did not stream AT ALL.

There is a lot of "music" (quotes are intentional, not commenting upon quality, but remarking that many tracks are not actually music) being uploaded, and some of it probably to tr and game the system. Apparently, very little of it is getting listened to very much.

What can you do?

Another great Sid The Cat show tonight. This time at Barnsdale Gallery Theater where I had never been before. Nearly 20 years of driving by it several times a week and I had never been to the Barnsdale Park.

The artist I went to see goes by Strawberry Guy. After going out to see bands for a long time (I started at 16), I can instantly tell when someone is just good. Arriving late because of not knowing how to find the venue, we walked in in the middle of the set to find him playing a grand piano with a 4-piece string section.

A truly wonderful performance.

Every time I go to a Sid The Cat show I find another amazing artist.

When was the last time you went to see someone that was not touring a commercial hit record, or just went to a local club with a stage.

NO, AI WONT KILL US ALL ANYTIME SOON!
It has been way too long since I posted here. In case anyone actually sees this post, I VERY MUCH encourage you to read this article from the New Yorker.
It demystifies AI in its current form in a way that truly eased my tension and interests me to paly around with it even more.
