William W. Pye was a close friend of my Grandpa Michael Eugene Neville. Grandpa took me with him to visit Mr. Pye about once a week. His office in Northfield was in an old building on the second floor in the middle of downtown. The office had high ceilings with shelves lining the walls from floor to ceiling and filled with law books. Interestingly, his office was directly across from the Jessie James Cafe which, formerly, had been the Bank that the Jessie James Gang had robbed. There is a movie about this.
Mr. Pye would take me with him to visit his three farms and would hand me a wad of cash to count out and pay his tenant farmers. I wonder if the farmers appreciated that?
