They provide a critical scholarship for a camper to attend each summer, as well as sponsor a guest teaching artist, provide masterclasses, and many opportunities for our campers to collaborate with the KCMF artists.

Exciting News from URI Summer Music Academy! 🎶

We are thrilled to be recruiting 7th–12th grade campers for this summer. and for the first time ever, we’re offering SATB Mixed Choir and Chamber Choir opportunities! 🎤

Led by outstanding voice faculty, our program focuses on healthy singing, posture, and breathing, while giving students a rich musical experience through diverse repertoire. Whether you’re new to singing or an experienced vocalist, this camp will challenge and inspire you as you prepare for a successful school year in choral music.

🎺 Open to all 7th–12th grade musicians: woodwind, brass, percussion, and voice

🎶 No audition required — all are welcome!

One of the most exciting parts of the URI Summer Music Academy experience is our collaboration with the Kingston Chamber Music Festival! 🎶

URI SMA students receive free admission to all Kingston Chamber Music Festival concerts (for anyone up to age 25!), and at the end of Week #2, our campers will take the stage for a special pre-concert Student Showcase before the festival’s grand finale concert on August 2.

Throughout the camp, KCMF artists will also visit rehearsals and lead masterclasses, giving students the opportunity to ask questions, learn about careers in music, understand the dedication required to succeed in the industry, and be inspired by the lives of these incredible musicians. Not only are they exceptional artists, but they are also wonderful role models for our students.

Thank you to the Kingston Chamber Music Festival for this amazing collaboration, and for generously sponsoring a full two-week overnight scholarship for one lucky camper!

Registration is now open for the 2026 University of Rhode Island Summer Music Academy!

New for 2026, URI SMA is excited to introduce a vocal track, welcoming singers alongside our instrumentalists. This summer we will serve strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, and voice students who have completed grades 7–12 as of June 2026.

The URI Summer Music Academy offers both overnight and day camp options for passionate young musicians who want to hone their skills, make new friends, and perform in inspiring concerts. Campers will perform in camp concerts and may also be featured in student showcase performances during the Kingston Chamber Music Festival.

Students stay in safe, air-conditioned dorms and are supervised by trained and enthusiastic camp counselors, creating a supportive environment that balances musical growth, fun, and community.

Campers also get to experience the beauty and culture of Rhode Island. Each Thursday includes a half-day trip to local beaches, and students will also have the opportunity to explore the arts and culture of Providence.

This year we are also introducing a camper referral program, allowing both returning and new campers to earn tuition discounts by referring friends.

Don’t miss your chance to hear URI SMA faculty member Megan Koch perform on cello alongside Natalie Zhu, Artistic Director of The Kingston Chamber Music Festival. There will also be a student showcase of string players who have been coached by Megan this school year. We are excited to hear this beautiful concert and start dreaming of summer camp 2026!

A night to remember! Thank you to Natalie Zhu and the entire Kingston Chamber Music Festival team for opening your doors to our chamber music students. They played tonight’s pre-concert student showcase, and enjoyed probably one of the best professional chamber music concerts ever!
