The sand turned into rocks and the trek become more challenging. The wind and water was colder here and Pete wished he had worn thicker leggings.

Pete stepped carefully through the soft moss as he crossed. Above him birds chirped and small creatures scurried in the vegetation all around. He made note of the snake slithering over logs and low branches from sun spot to sun spot, being sure not to disturb it.

Sparkling tinsel decorations dangled, glistening, from street signs lining the sidewalks. The air was crisp but the sun was warm. The town was still sleepy from the rush of the holidays as Pete strolled along the rows of shoppes and cafes.

Evergreen trees sprinkled with twinkling lights towered over Pete, with colorful glass orbs dangling from their branches. Fluffy white snow covered the ground, nearly up to his waist, but somehow walking through it was more like walking through a mist or fog. His skin tingled in the cool air as the sound of faint music danced in his ears, seemingly coming from every direction. Somewhere, not too far away, he could hear sleigh bells and the soft, rhythmic crunch of snow. As he moved closer, he could see a figure, dressed in red and laughing joyfully as he tended to a crew of reindeer, ahead of him. Who could it be!? He had to get closer!
