Some photos of the last mugs to better appreciate their surfaces -

The range of possibilities when firing work in an anagama really is fantastic. There's always this feeling of discovery as you slowly unload the kiln and are able to see how your work has been changed by the process.

Both mugs were made with the same clay body and glaze.

After a couple of relaxing days around the kiln, and a few axe swings, our side-stoke supply is looking better 😁

Jess and I had a great time making a collaborative bowl and meeting some new clay people! (and their dogs 😁)

is doing such a great thing by making ceramics more accessible to this area of Detroit and creating such a welcoming environment! Definitely check it out if you're in the area!

I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to help fire their mobile anagama at the end of the week. It should be a blast! 🔥

I was thinking about what sort of minis I could hide around NCECA, and I landed on tiny mugs / espresso cups.

Thoughts? Should they be even tinier? Should I make something completely different?

For this round of mugs, I decided to tweak a few elements of the design.

- A rounded and less wavy rim - to have a more inviting drinking surface

- Thicker handles that have rounded interior - so they're more comfortable to hold and less delicate

- Thinner foot rings - so that the overall form sits a little lower and there is less visual focus on the foot

It'll be interesting to see how these changes impact the finished product.
