Parents, please remember that for many, dance is not a 'hobby'. It's passion. Itβs love. It's who we are. It's life itself. It's a career choice that we didn't choose. It chose us. And that your daughters and sons, may have also been chosen. Don't be discouraged. Don't fight it. Accept it. Invest in it. Celebrate it! Watch it grow into something that will be a gift to the world. And most importantly, a gift to your child and your family. I first became fascinated by dance when I was very young. For many reasons, I wasn't encouraged to dance. But dance found me later in life at 19, in another country. Here in the United States. I couldn't hide. Others could not hide it from me. It followed me from the Philippines. I hold no bitterness about this. That was my path and I am the dancer, the teacher, and the choreographer that I am today because of it. If you can see that fire in your child's eyes at a young age, don't try to extinguish it. Instead, give it more fuel. You have NO idea just what may be ahead....your child may also want to become a doctor, a lawyer, a chef, a teacher. That may still happen. And they can be a dancing doctor, a dancing teacher, or a dancing chef. But if you take away your child's passion now, they may become none of those things. That may be a burden that both you and your child will carry for the rest of your life....
