We’re thrilled to welcome Erich Corfman to the South Bend Symphony Orchestra as our new Second Trombone. Read on to get to know our newest musician! 👇
Erich Corfman is a Chicago-based trombonist and educator whose career spans orchestral, operatic, and chamber music performance. He has performed with leading ensembles including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra, Opera San Antonio, and numerous other organizations across the United States. He joined the South Bend Symphony Orchestra as Second Trombonist in the 2026 season and since 2025, he has served as Principal Trombonist of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and Second Trombonist of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. He also served as Acting Second Trombonist of the Des Moines Metro Opera during its 2024 season.
Erich earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. During his time at Indiana University, he was awarded a fellowship to the Aspen Music Festival and School in 2022. Erich recently completed a Master of Music degree at DePaul University.
A passionate educator, Erich teaches private lessons on low brass instruments at the Central Middle School in Tinley Park, Illinois, and Munster School District. Outside of music, he enjoys spending time with his fiancée, Julia Koehler, a violinist and faculty member at the Merit School of Music, and their two cats, Oliver and Juniper.
