Yesterday, August 9th, brings us the heartbreaking loss for everyone who knew and loved Bill and Darla Taggart. The two were tragically taken from us in a solo car accident, leaving a profound void in the lives of the many people they touched with their kindness, generosity, and spirit.

They are best known to the racing community for their generous time given volunteering to 'Tech-in' each bracket racing vehicle pre-race at Sonoma Raceway. They were always pleasant to talk to, even in the worse of race conditions.

Bill is also well known for his legendary bracket-racing skills, piloting many of his "slowest car on the track" vehicles but always coming out victorious! Nobody wants to get beat by a 20 second car, but Bill handed out the losses to many people who thought they had the race in the bag.

Bill and Darla will be sorely missed and remembered always.

Sonoma Raceway's Wednesday night drag racing program has finally concluded the 2023 Season Point Champions Run-Off race (A.K.A. King of the Track). Contenders won each of their respected racing categories during the 2023 season.

Contenders:
Chris Burton - Com Rod Champion
Bobby Grabrian - Jackpot Champion
Dustin Love - High School Champion
Steve Jaslovsky - Gear Jammer Champion
Doug McCay - Sport Street Champion
Don Hensley - Street Champion
Doug Love - Motorcycle Champion
Marty Fermer - Electric Champion

Doug McCay, 2023 Sport Street Champion, took the victory, in the final round, over Bobby Grabrian, 2023 Jackpot Champion. Two Wednesday night legends!

CONGRATULATIONS!! to Doug McCay, in his Whipple Supercharged Ford F150.

Shout-out to Nick Bublitz (Sonoma Raceway's drag strip manager) for making this race happen after so many attempts to get the race champions schedules and track venue dates to lign-up with each other.

Price increase - COST: $60 to race if you pre-register or purchase at the gate; $20 to race with High School ID. $20 for spectators at the gate.
