Our team spent months designing and fabricating the Hatchlings pavilions currently on display through the end of February. Nine Hatchlings can be visited along the Greenway and the Esplanade parks in Downtown Boston. 100% made in Massachusetts, the Hatchlings were fabricated at our studio in North Adams, and finished on location in Boston. We spent six weeks hand welding rebar into the beautiful Hatch Shell shapes, and delicately wrapping these structures in programmable lights in custom patterns and colors, with over 100,000 lights across all nine Hatchlings. Powered by the sun, with 50% solar and 50% grid power.

A big thank you to all the members of our fabrication team for helping us make this installation a reality, and for the ongoing support and creative vision of the Greenway Conservancy and the Esplanade Association. We are so grateful for the opportunity to create something so specific to the city of Boston, to its history of innovative design, and its pledge to become a more sustainable city of the future.

We are delighted to announce the mural projection has been extended an additional 8 weeks! On view nightly from sunset to 11pm now through June 30th, 2023 in Dewey Square. Thank you to the Boston community and the Greenway for the overwhelming show of support.

This unprecedented activation of “Breathe Life Together” was created out of a collaboration between Studio HHH, mural artist Rob “ProBlak” Gibbs (Pro Blak) and visual artist Pamela Hersch (Hersch Visuals), amplifying the cosmic elements central to ProBlak’s signature style.

We are pleased to announce that we have been once again asked to create content for Boston College’s annual fundraising gala Pops on the Heights. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the event.

Over the past seven years, we have had the tremendous pleasure of working with the project teams from Boston College, Rafanelli Events and A-Team Events Management who continue to make this project such fun year after year. Check out the video below for a peek into our first few years creating for this event.

“My work is more about your seeing than it is about my seeing, although it is a product of my seeing. I’m also interested in the sense of presence of space; that is space where you feel a presence, almost an entity — that physical feeling and power that space can give.”
- James Turrell

An icon in the world of light art, James Turrell is one of the many visual artists who’s work inspires us. His trailblazing installations have influenced our belief in creating artwork that does not result in a collectible object, but rather a personal experience for each viewer.

When you visit “The Octopus” in the interactive wall, don’t miss this abstracted body of the submarine suspended in two parts at either end of the atrium. It is bisected again along the imagined waterline dividing the upper wireframe and the projected underside, positioning the viewer below the submarine in the enchanted underwater world.

The easiest way to find the atrium is to go to The Fours restaurant on Cottage Ave in Quincy, MA. The atrium is located between Cottage Ave and the central plaza.

Go big or go home! No one is likely to leave without noticing these giant signs at Kilroy Square. HHH developed a visual identity that reflects this playful approach to placemaking, while incorporating Quincy’s history of shipbuilding and the story of Kilroy.

Who is Kilroy? Do you recognize the doodle that appears in the signage and branding for Kilroy square? He was an inspiration and companion for many people serving in the military during World War II.

Over the past year we have been working closely with the Quincy leadership team to develop the placemaking for Kilroy Square, a contemporary public square that supports a wide range of programming, from morning yoga classes to lunch crowd dining, community events, projected movie nights, and many more events to come.

Sometimes it comes down to what feels right. In order to confirm the placement of the directional plaques, DCL’s team created a projection mockup of the shop drawings at full scale. Changes were made. Thanks Jeff Grantz
for the expert measuring.

We believe that play is therapeutic. When you’re spending time with family this weekend, don’t forget to take time to goof around together. This installation reminds us to take ourselves a little less seriously, to get silly and get awkward, it's fun!

The main feature of the show is an interactive wall titled “Descent” where viewers can gesturally interact with the wall and follow the submarine to greater and greater depths into the enchanted underworld. Play with schools of fish, open and close sea anemones, light up giant electric jellyfish and play with the swirling pools of blck ink emitted by the giant octopus that is eventually chased away when the submarine returns again, and ascends to the surface.

This installation occupies an interstitial space that would otherwise be treated as a corridor to get from plaza to the building entrance or adjacent streets. By activating this space with an art installation, it has been transformed into a destination that not only brightens the day of locals, but attracts visitors from far and wide into the emerging urban center of Downtown Quincy.
