It was a night to celebrate heroes and honor a bluegrass legend.

As part of the Lake Cumberland 250 celebration, The Center for Rural Development hosted a patriotic salute to veterans and active-duty military Tuesday night, followed by a bluegrass concert.

The Veterans Honor Guard of Rockcastle County presented the colors, and Rounder’s Station Bluegrass Band opened the concert.

Dove Award winner and Grammy nominee Nathan Stanley honored his grandfather, bluegrass legend Dr. Ralph Stanley, by performing the signature music and sound that made him one of bluegrass music’s most influential artists.

Congratulations to Appalachian Restoration Project (Redemption Road Recovery) in Knox County on receiving an Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Flex-E-Grant!

The Center for Rural Development has awarded the Barbourville nonprofit organization a $6,400 mini-grant to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed tiny home lodging enterprise near Knox Sports Park.

The study will assess market demand, site suitability, stakeholder input, and financial viability while exploring opportunities to create recovery-friendly workforce training and employment for men in addiction recovery.

Appalachian Restoration Project is the latest recipient of federal grant funding through the ARC. Last month, The Center for Rural Development announced $50,000 in ARC mini grants had been approved for five capacity building planning and implementation projects across Southern and Eastern Kentucky.

“We applaud Knox County for being proactive in providing for their residents. Strong communities are built through thoughtful planning and strategic investment,” said Lonnie Lawson, President and CEO of The Center for Rural Development. “By supporting projects like these, we are helping local leaders explore new opportunities, strengthen their economies, and create a foundation for long-term growth and success throughout our region.”

These projects are strengthening local economies, expanding tourism, supporting working families, improving infrastructure, and preparing communities for future growth.
