School may be done for the year, but we’re not! We had a great time at the 2026 Kansas City Cappies awards gala!

Congratulations to Sylis Newman for winning Outstanding Comic Actor in a Musical AND Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Play. This marks the FIRST TWO CAPPIES AWARD WINS IN PROGRAM HISTORY! We are unbelievably proud of him and also of Dominic Santulli and Khloe Hogan who performed at the gala!

We will likely have some professional photos coming soon… but we were too excited to share the amazing news to wait!

It’s the last “school night” of the year so we may as well make it a late one!

We had a great time this evening at the Starlight Theatre Blue Star awards ceremony! Recent alumnus Sylis Newman did a terrific job in the opening ceremony! An evening spent celebrating high school theatre with our closest friends from 65 neighboring schools is an evening well spent!

This summer, we are SO excited to offer an elementary theatre camp!

Through the 5-day camp, students will play games, learn about theatre, and produce a short play that will be presented on the final camp day.

SHS Theatre is feeling OUTSPOKEN in '26-'27!

This Fall, join us for the winner of the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for drama, LOST IN YONKERS by Neil Simon. Brothers Jay and Arty find themselves under the same roof as their eccentric family and come to terms with what it means to be a part of family as well as to be loved by one.

Then, in the Winter, we'll visit NYC for Christmas, meeting little orphan Annie, millionaire Oliver Warbucks, and the scheming Miss Hannigan who tries to steal her away. We are excited to present this as an ALL AGES production, showcasing elementary school students in our community.

Finally, this Spring, we'll follow witty, independent Elizabeth Bennet as she navigates societal pressures, family scandals, and her initial prejudice against the wealthy, proud Mr. Darcy.

With a roster of big, OUTSPOKEN characters and a trio of classics of literature, drama, and musical theatre, our '26-'27 can't be missed!

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our Kansas City Cappies award nominees! We are pleased to announce a school record 7 nominations across both of our eligible productions!

Sylis Newman and Khloe Hogan will get to perform “The Gypsy in Me” (choreographed by Sylis Newman) at the Cappies awards gala later this month! We’re so proud of them and the rest of our nominees!

Congratulations to the Smithville High School class of 2026 on their graduation day! Over the past 4 years, we've produced 12 full-length plays and musicals together (and this year's competitive one-act!). As you move into the next chapter of your lives, let's think about some of the lessons we've learned together.

Our Town-
Don’t wish time away. “Ordinary” moments are the most important ones.

The SpongeBob Musical-
Society is often harsh. When confronted with adversity, many people choose to run away or to bicker about who’s to blame. When the goings gets tough, be the sponge to get going.

The Mouse that Roared-
People will surprise you. Give them that opportunity.

Clue-
When the solution to a problem seems impossible, retrace your steps.

Something Rotten!-
You don’t have to face life’s obstacles alone. Asking for help is an act of great strength.

Puffs-
It is very easy to feel like you're only a secondary character in someone else's grand story. That does not mean, however, there isn't another story out there that's all about you. The one where you're the most important person in the world

Happiness is anyone and anything at all that's loved by you.
