Neuse Little Theatre Founded in 1974. Completely volunteer workforce has provided 50 seasons of live theatre to the Smithfield & Johnston County communities. Street & lot parking.

We welcome everyone to come out and audition, work behind the scenes, and enjoy our shows. The little log cabin by the Town Commons on the Neuse River... we came to have our home in the late 1980s and became the sole occupants in the mid-to-late 1990s. Few small communities have experienced the quality of local theatre that has graced Johnston County’s stages. From its founding in 1974, the Neuse Little Theatre has maintained the highest standards of quality. From Neil Simon to Rogers & Hammerstein; from Spoon River Anthology to Wizard of Oz, NLT has strived to delight young and old alike. After years of traveling from pillar to post in search of a home, the Neuse Little Theatre found a place to call its own. “The Hut”, as it is affectionately known, is NLT’s home. Originally the American Legion Log Cabin, Neuse Little Theatre has worked hard at upkeep of the building while making it work as a live performance space. With only 100 seats, the Hut provides ample seating while maintaining the intimate theatrical experience that our audiences enjoy. Come see a show and see what NLT can do! See you at the theater!

We have a new podcast out!
In this special episode, we sit down with the director and two cast members of JAG Theatrics’ production of She Kills Monsters. JAG Theatrics, originally founded as a student organization at Johnston Community College, has quickly grown into a vibrant community theatre welcoming performers and creatives from across the region.

This modern, emotionally resonant play explores grief, healing, and finding connection to the people we love — even after they’re gone. The production will be staged at JCC’s Paul A. Johnston Auditorium, where audiences will join the performers on the stage itself in an intimate black‑box configuration, creating a close, immersive experience that brings the story to life in a powerful new way.

Show dates/times are:
Oct 9 at 7pm, Oct 10 at 2:30 and 7pm, and Oct 11 at 2:30pm
Tickets can be purchased on online at https://www.etix.com/ticket/v/1781/the-paul-ajohnston-auditorium or at the JCC Box Office.

Thank you to everyone who came out to audition for our next production, A Christmas Story. We were thrilled by the incredible talent that filled the room, and while we wish we could cast everyone, there are only so many roles to fill.

We are proud to announce the official cast list for A Christmas Story.
Please keep an eye out for future audition opportunities with Neuse Little Theatre.

For our young performers eager to get onstage, Center Stage Theatre in Goldsboro will be presenting The Best Christmas Pageant Ever — audition dates will be announced soon. And Benson Little Theatre will be holding auditions for Adventure Alley: The Ultimate Variety Show for Kids! on January 10 & 11, 2027. Visit their website for more information.
