Meet Suzanne .
There's a particular kind of pride that comes from looking at something you created and thinking "I did that". Suzanne clearly know that feeling.

Meet Paula.
Paula had her own idea of where this project could lead. She enjoyed the process painting and stamping the flowers. She followed her idea of using two colors in her 2nd piece and creating a vase for the bouquet.
That's creative thinking at work.

Meet Mary Ann.
Georgia O'Keeffe believed that really seeing a flower takes time. Maybe that's part of why flowers have inspired artists for generations, including Marilyn.

Meet Jef.
There's something deeply satisfying about making something with your own hands,
stepping back,
looking at it
and thinking,
YES. I like what I did.

Meet Marilyn.
We often talk about what benefits the person making the art gets from the experience. Marilyn reminds us that something we create can bring pleasure to someone else too.

Before I take a new art lesson into a care community, there's one simple test worth doing:
Sit down and try it.

Can you reach everything? Can you see what you're doing? Does your arm have enough room to move? Does the paper slide when you apply pressure?
A project that works beautifully while you're standing at a worktable can feel very different when you're creating it from a chair.

Design the experience from the artist's side of the table.

Following this mindset, I discovered a few things to adjust in a recent printmaking lesson using scratch foam plates. I needed the Art Peeps to rub over the printing plate to transfer the design to paper. I needed to consider hand-strength and rubbing the entire surface. The solution used on the “day of” as offering an easy to grasp object to serve as a baren to rub over the back of the printing plate and make the process easier.

What adjustments have you made to a project to help your Peeps?

Hi friends,

I wanted to share a quick update. I’m streamlining where I post as I continue building out Caregiver’s Artbox lessons and supporting activity staff.
Because of that, I won’t be posting regularly here.
If you’d like to keep up with my art, lessons, and the work I’m doing in senior living communities, I’d love for you to follow along over on my Artwork by Julie Mader page:

Thank you for being part of this space — it truly means a lot.
