Here are the updated CL Golf Rankings. With his win at the 2026 Open, Tom Metcalf takes over the top spot in the rankings for the first time in his career. John Austin, with a victory at the Par 3 Classic earlier this year, and a 3rd place finish at the Open, sits in 2nd. Ralph Nardulli, Bob Ellenberger and Xander Downing round out the Top 5, all within 1400 pts of 2nd place. With the Cooper's Lake Championship still to play this October, the rankings could look radically different at year's end.

John Austin currently leads the Player of the Year race by a narrow margin over Tom Metcalf, but Ralph Nardulli, Jack Austin and Brian Swisher are all within striking distance to take home the 2026 POTY award. As always, results of the Cider Cup will be factored into the final standings for POTY, especially if the POTY race is very close.

The 2026 Cooper's Lake Open is now in the books! With an incredible career-low round of Even Par (72) Tom Metcalf has won his 2nd Cooper's Lake Open title! Tom birdied his first 2 holes, then eagled the Par-5 6th hole, before nearly making a Hole-in-one at the short Par-3 9th hole to card a 2-under par 34 on the Front 9. Tom held on to win the tournament by 2 strokes over last year's co-runner-up Jack Austin. Tom is just the 4th different golfer in Cooper's Lake Open history to shoot a round of Even Par or better. The Green Course at the Churchfield Links proved to be a fun, yet challenging Open venue and received rave reviews. We'll be sure to return in the future. Thanks to all who came out to support the event and we'll see yinz this fall for the Cider Cup and the Championship!

If you've been living under a rock, The Cooper's Lake Open is this weekend. It's also an anniversary year. This will be the 15th playing of the Open. 18-holes of stroke play. The winner takes home the Rob Peterson Trophy for the year as well as a prize of $150 dollars. We will also have a closest to pin contest on Saturday, as well as an award ceremony for our CL Golf Veterans Award recipients. We're starting at 10 AM both Saturday and Sunday so there's still time to enter the tournament for all you fence-sitters. Hope to see yinz there!

**Announcements**

We are 10 days away from the Cooper's Lake Open (Saturday, July 11th). Winner gets $150. The start time will be determined a bit closer to the date, but right now we're looking at a 10 AM start. Here are a few special announcements:

First off, the course is now ready for play. If you'd like to play a practice round before the 11th, get in touch with Jeff.

The next few announcements are BIG...

Cooper's Lake Golf is flying into the future! This year, we have a drone. Jeff hasn't set it up yet (or learned how to fly it), but will try to test it out this weekend BEFORE the tournament.

Next on the docket, this year we are going to try a Live Leaderboard, meaning all scores are updated in real time. Now you can find out exactly where you stand on the leaderboard at all times. Bob makes a birdie on Hole 5. You'll see it. Tom double bogey's the 8th hole a minute later. You'll see that too. Vic, Ralph and Joe all make eagles on 10 and tie for the lead. You'll see it all. How does it work? Download the "Squabbit Golf" App on your smartphone and you'll be able to enter your scores and your group's scores (instructions will be given at the tournament). Anyone coming just to watch will be able to follow along on their phone too. We'll still have paper scorecards in case there are technical difficulties. But this will allow the people who want to know where they stand, find out exactly where they stand, and it will speed up scoring after the round, so Jeff doesn't have to do all the math in his head (while everyone is trying to talk to him). The app also keeps stats and has a course map so hopefully yinz can save a few shots this year by hitting to the correct flagstick.

Lastly, since this is the 15th playing of the Open, Jeff thought it would be a good idea to recognize our most accomplished golfers. So we'll be debuting a new prestigious award at this year's Open; "The Cooper's Lake Golf Veterans Award." To qualify for this award, golfers must play in at least 5 Opens, multiple Championships, and multiple Classics, totaling at least 10 tournaments. They must have at least 3 Top-3's or 5 Top-5's throughout their career. In addition to that, they must also have played in multiple Cider Cups. It awards golfers who have had both outstanding participation and performance over the long-term. There are 7 golfers who already qualify and will receive this award at this year's Open and hopefully there will be many more in the coming years.

Although it will be a week after 4th of July, a lot of us plan on wearing Red, White and Blue to celebrate 250 years of 'Merica, so tell your friends. And yes, there will be beer like always. See yinz on the 11th!

The 15th Cooper's Lake Open will be held on Saturday, July 11th! The Churchfield Links (Green Course) has been selected to host the tournament. It will be the third time the Open has been held at Churchfield (2018 on the Black Course & 2023 on the Red Course).

Unique things about this course include five par-5's and five par-3's, both the Front 9 and Back 9 begin with back-to-back par-5's. All of the par-5's are reachable in two shots and there are two par-4's that are reachable from the tee. With 7 potential holes with eagle-opportunities, this year's Open should provide plenty of excitement. At only 6,000 feet, it will be the shortest course to host a Cooper's Lake Open since the very first Open in 2011. What the course lacks in distance, it makes up for with meandering, linksy fairways with bottlenecks and islands of rough, which could make the course very challenging in windy conditions.

Bob Ellenberger is the defending champion.

More news to come between now and the tournament. We're looking forward to another great Open and hoping for a record turnout!

Here are the updated Cooper's Lake Golf Rankings. Bob Ellenberger remains the #1 ranked golfer, while Ralph Nardulli jumps up to 2nd, courtesy of his runner-up finish at the Classic. Xander Downing remains in 3rd, while John Austin jumps from 15th to 4th after his victory at the Classic. This Sunday, June 7th, we will be playing the 8th Cooper's Lake Classic... but with a twist. Every hole is a par 3 and you're only allowed to use 1 club. We will start around 1:30 or 2. Get here earlier if you want to warm up and check out the course. Rules and prizes are the same as usual. Still trying to come up with a prize in case someone gets a hole-in-one. Hope to see everyone there!
