My latest book has arrived!

Forgotten Soldier tells the stories of young men from Sleepy Eye who proudly served in the Armed Forces. These men were true HEROES. Some returned home carrying memories of war forever, while others made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

I wrote this book so these brave young men and their stories would never be forgotten. With Memorial Day approaching, it is important we remember those who fought for our freedom and honor the sacrifices they made for all of us.

Inside this book are the stories of many courageous young men from Sleepy Eye who answered the call to serve during times of war. It is a powerful and emotional read filled with local history, patriotism, sacrifice, and honor.

You can purchase a signed copy through Venmo for $26. Please include your address and I will personally mail you a first printed edition copy. Due to the strong early interest, a second printing has already been ordered.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support my books, history page, and storytelling. Together we will continue keeping the memories of Sleepy Eye alive for future generations.

FORGOTTEN SOLDIER TO BE RELEASED THIS MEMORIAL DAY

New Book Honors the Courage and Sacrifice of Sleepy Eye’s Own

Sleepy Eye, Minnesota — This Memorial Day, 2026, a powerful new book will bring long-silent voices back to life.

Forgotten Soldier: True Stories of Valor and Honor is more than a collection of wartime accounts—it is a tribute to the men of Sleepy Eye whose courage carried them from quiet hometown streets to battlefields both near and far.

For years, their stories have rested in faded newspapers, family memories, and weathered records. Now, they are being gathered, told, and remembered.

And they will not be forgotten. They were ordinary men.
Farm boys who rose before sunrise.
Clerks who worked behind counters on Main Street.
Young men who laughed with friends, attended dances, and built dreams in a small Minnesota town.

Then came the call.
Some served on the home front—guarding, training, building, and preparing. Others crossed oceans, stepping into lands far from anything they had ever known. Europe. The Pacific. Places where the sound of gunfire replaced the quiet of Sleepy Eye nights.

They did not leave seeking glory.
They left because they were needed.

In Forgotten Soldier, readers will walk alongside these men as they faced the realities of war.

Cold mornings in foreign trenches.
Long marches through mud and uncertainty.
Moments of fear, and moments of unbelievable bravery.

Letters home told only part of the story—carefully written words meant to comfort families, often hiding the harsh truths of battle. But between those lines lived real experiences: sacrifice, brotherhood, and resilience.

Some came home.

Some did not.

All gave something.

History often remembers the big battles, the famous generals, the turning points of war.

But it is the local stories—the names etched quietly into memory—that carry the deepest meaning.

Through interviews, historical archives, and years of research, Brent “The Zoo Man” Mielke has uncovered stories that might otherwise have been lost. Stories told by those who lived them, and by families who carried their legacy forward.

These are not just war stories.

They are human stories.

Stories of young men who missed home.
Stories of friendships formed under fire.
Stories of strength when everything was on the line.

A PROMISE KEPT

Memorial Day is a time to pause, reflect, and remember.

With the release of Forgotten Soldier, that remembrance takes on new life. It is a promise to those who served—that their courage will not fade into the past.

That their names will still be spoken.
That their sacrifices will still matter.

That in a small town like Sleepy Eye, their stories will continue to live on.

COMING MEMORIAL DAY 2026

As flags rise and communities gather this Memorial Day, Forgotten Soldier will stand as a lasting tribute to the men who answered the call.

Because heroes are not only found in history books.

Sometimes, they come from right down the street.

And thanks to this new work, they will never be forgotten.
