We had an excellent turnout to our rail bending tutorial yesterday. Our dedicated volunteers managed to replace a badly deteriorated section of aluminum track with steel where it crosses one of our bridges. Thanks to all who attended. Extra special thanks to Kevin Vick for the training, and Evin Fairchild for the pictures.

We have 2 more work parties before the start of the season. We would love to have volunteers join us on April 4th and 18th at 10 AM. We have plenty more work to be done, from more track replacement and ballasting to locomotive repairs to landscaping!

2026 membership renewal forms were mailed out on 1/28 and 1/29 to all US based members. If you believe you were a member and have not received your form within a week, please contact us to let us know.

Canadian members, please contact us to arrange for renewal. We do not have the ability to mail you renewals at this time.

And as a reminder, we have a work party on February 7th at 10 AM, please join us if you can!

Our first work party of the season could have been snowed out, but a few dedicated volunteers manually cleared the outer loop of snow so we could assess track conditions. We also did some light maintenance and connected battery maintainers to the locomotives that need them.

Once the work was done a few lucky visitors got a rare opportunity to ride our railroad in the snow.

As a current Co-Vice President of GNCR, Kevin Vick has been a key figure at the railway, frequently operating his steam locomotive and providing support to Mike Heath with his engine. Kevin and his family have played a vital role in the organization's operations and achievements over the past 11 years. A recent fire has resulted in significant losses for their family and impacted their employees. Any help, including sharing their GoFundMe page, would be greatly appreciated.

Get ready for a fun-filled day at the Great Northern and Cascade Railway's 2025 season opening day! Our 12th season kicks off this Saturday, May 3rd, with free miniature train rides from 10:00 to 4:00. Our dedicated volunteers have put in countless hours to ensure our equipment and track are in excellent working condition, providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Don't miss the visiting locomotives this Saturday! We're thrilled to have these special guests join us for our opening day, and we can't wait to share them with you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
We had a fantastic turnout for our first Saturday of the month “Off Season” work party today!!

The dedicated volunteers that attended our December work party set the stage for a super successful January work party.

Last month the engine shed was organized and prepped for working in our riding cars, the depot was scrubbed and cleaned inside and out, and plans were made for this month’s work party.

Today riding cars and trucks were gone through to see what we have that’s in good working order, what can be repaired and what needs to be replaced. The SantaFe got some much needed work started. The blackberries that were overtaking the center landscaping were removed. The too narrow “cut” area on the outside loop was widened. And Inventory in the gift shop was taken and restocking will begin soon!!!

I apologize if I missed anything that has been done over the last 2 work parties.

Our next work party is scheduled for Saturday February 1st!!

We are excited to announce that our off-season work parties will commence tomorrow, Saturday, December 7th. If you are available, we welcome your support with maintenance activities at the railroad, starting at 10:30am at the park. Our key priorities include repairs to engines and rolling stock, in addition to assessments and work on track, switches, and signals. We will work rain or shine so we hope to see you there!!

***NOTICE OF REVISED WINTER HOURS***
Train operations will resume in May 2025. In the interim, our depot, museum, and gift shop will be open to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm throughout the fall, winter, and spring seasons.

We welcome your involvement in our upcoming work party events, dedicated to key off-season initiatives including much needed riding car refurbishment, locomotive repairs, and track work to make our upcoming 12th year our best yet!!
