The Skokie Park District is excited to announce Joe Schulz as the new Hockey Director!

Joe brings a lifelong passion for hockey and extensive experience in Illinois youth hockey to the Skokie community. Having grown up playing at a variety of levels throughout the Chicagoland area — from house hockey to AA — Joe continued his playing career with the Northern Illinois Huskies collegiate team before transitioning into coaching.

Over the past eight years, Joe has coached at multiple levels and is committed to growing the next generation of hockey players by emphasizing skill development, community engagement, teamwork, positivity, and fun both on and off the ice.

Please join us in welcoming Joe to the Skokie hockey community! Joe will be starting at the Skatium on Wednesday, May 27, be sure to stop by the rink and introduce yourself over the coming weeks.

It is with great sadness that the Skatium announces the passing of long-time scorekeeper Alan Gould, or more accurately to quote him, "Alan Gould Scorekeeper, Public Address Announcer, Skatium Ice Arena." Alan started at the Skatium in 1990 as assistant to legendary Virgina "Mamma Bird" Pasowicz and over the years has become a legend in his own right. Alan has been a staple in the scorebox and on the microphone for the Skatium men's hockey leagues, the Flyers house and travel leagues, Mammoth travel hockey leagues, and various women's leagues that play out of the Skatium. Alan's passion for announcing was evident in every single game he did and he brought excitement to the players every time they were able to hear him announce their names. In addition to his announcing duties, Alan appointed himself the pre-game and post-game organizer. He would go into each locker room and make sure the scoresheets were filled out and let everyone know that the machine was on the ice and he also helped make sure that the players were sitting on the benches and not the boards so that the drivers could safely cut the ice. He would also call staff at the rink and let them know of any issues and remind them of game changes and of course to change the clocks every time we fall back or spring ahead. In addition, to Alan Gould Scorekeeper, he was Alan Gould friend to many who have skated here over the years. He spent many nights watching games and enjoying outings with many of the Skatium's former players and coaches. Alan will be truly missed and never forgotten. Alan, we hope to "talk to you down the road...BYYEE!"
