Laura Luisa Cowell

Laura Luisa Cowell Pet Portraits of all types of animals. Bizarre but intriguing paintings, repurposed hand painted children's furniture and toys.

I am currently enjoying an encore career as a painter of pet portraits, children's furniture, toys and ceramic tiles. I hold a BFA and an MFA in Theatrical Set Design. For many years I worked designing and painting for theater, opera, ballet and TV. These companies have included the New York City Opera, The American Ballet Theater, the Santa Fe Opera, Boston Opera Theater, Actors Theater of Louisv

ille and many more. In the late 1980's I began working in the special events industry in New York and continued in that field after moving back to Chicago in 1989. This led to several years as a partner in a premier Chicago company, Millennium Special Events. About ten years ago I retired from that field and began painting on my own. Also worked for Chicago Dog Walkers for seven years, to make actual money. My poor old feet forced me to retire from that last winter. Although I do miss my days outside with my puppy pals. At this time I am mainly focusing on pet portraiture, toys, children's furniture and ceramic tiles

Don't let this happen to a furry friend that you love. Don't delay because the holidays are fast approaching. Turn those little furry frowns upside down. If you do they'll promise not to p*e on the floor all day today. Puts smiles like these on you little friends faces. It's a gift that keeps on gi...

Working on a large project for Rae Anne Cecrle. President of Edgewater Artists in Motion. She is putting up a new building at 1127 Granville which will be the new home of the Chicago Mosaic School. This project is in conjunction with the building of Gallery 1070 opening on Granville this fall. Her goal is to create an arts center to bring the arts to Edgewater. She has asked me to create a series of panels depicting this vision to be placed on the construction site of the new building. The first three were installed this week. They will remain up until March when construction will begin on another building a block east at which point they will be moved to the new site..

Each panel is 4’ x 8” and depicts a local business combined with famous works of art or famous artists.

In total the panels will be on display on Granville for two years. The first three have been installed to coincide with the Edgewater Arts Festival this weekend September 23 and 24.
