Maxwell Street Klezmer Band

Maxwell Street Klezmer Band Since 1983, a leader of the Klezmer Revival in the Midwest, playing concerts and celebrations.

The Maxwell Street Klezmer Band preserves and innovates the traditional performance style of Eastern European immigrant musicians who recorded from the 1910s-1960s. The band's violinist and musical director, Alex Koffman, and co-founder, clarinetist/saxophonist Shelley Yoelin, meld their classical and jazz sensibilities into a unique sound that pleases audiences of all ages. In addition to touring, the band performs at weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and other traditional Jewish celebrations.

Maxwell Street will feature several guest musicians sitting in with the band, including a Yiddish vocal duet, a sax player from a local klezmer band, and a cellist who recently graduated from our Junior Klezmer Orchestra.
