Patrick and Bibi are a couple who work with their hands, and everything they make reflects that.

They chose natural materials intentionally, leather, thread, and more, and every design decision is made together as a team. The colors, the leathers, the details. Each piece is cut and sewn by hand, a process that takes more time but produces something noticeably stronger and more considered than anything a machine turns out. They also incorporate laser etched imagery into some of their work, adding another layer of craft to an already deliberate process.

The result is work that is built to last and made to mean something.

Stop in and see their pieces at Skaneateles Artisans.

Becky Congdon came to glass through engineering, which tells you something about the kind of artist she is.
She holds degrees in mechanical engineering and computer science, but glass had her attention long before she ever picked up a torch. The turning point came when she had the chance to work in Corning, NY. She was smitten, her words, and by 2006 she had left engineering behind to pursue glasswork full time. For the record, her first date with her husband was a hands-on open house at the Corning Museum of Glass. It was always going to end up this way.
Her specialty is flamework, using a torch to melt rods of glass and build up each bead or object in layers, stringers, latticinos, goldstone, foils, and more, all captured in clear glass. The work is technical and artistic in equal measure, which is exactly what keeps her interested. She describes it as an adventure, and she has been on that adventure since 1997.

Mary Pierce LaFleur has been making pottery for over 40 years, and she has never stopped learning how to do it better.

It started at the Boston Center for Adult Education, led to a potter's wheel as one of her first married purchases, and by 1977 she had established Pinewoods Potters in Troy, NY alongside her sister Kathryn. What began as a passion became a business, and that business has been running ever since.

Her background is in music education, and it shows up in her work in ways you might not expect. The forms and patterns she gravitates toward echo the movement and ornamentation of music. Her gardens are another influence, all vibrant color and unexpected texture.

She has trained at some of the most respected craft schools in the country, from Penland in North Carolina to Arrowmont in Tennessee, studying everything from hand building to raku and saggar firing. It is that last category that really has her attention right now. The results are unique, unpredictable, and by her own description, exhilarating.

Maureen A. Barcza spent 40 years in clinical and research work at University Hospital's Pathology Department before retirement gave her the time to fully pursue something she had always loved, oil painting.

Her path into art is rooted in a relationship that started in 7th grade. George Benedict, her teacher at the time, became a lifelong mentor, friend, and inspiration. For over 35 years she attended his portrait drawing group, and after his passing in 2010, she kept the sessions going herself. That kind of dedication tells you everything about how seriously she takes the craft.

She has trained with Albert Handel and Robert Carsten, and is an active member of the Marcellus and Onondaga Art Guilds and the Sketchers of Syracuse. But what drives her work is something more personal. The subjects that move her are the ones that stir a memory or bring a feeling of quiet and peace. Flowers and gardens take her back to her grandfather's yard, where she was by his side as soon as she could walk.

She hopes her paintings reveal a glimpse of that emotional investment. They do.

This stained glass piece by Donna Trumble came in a couple weeks ago - this is a stunning stained glass piece with a wooden base that is absolutely made for a window sill. It needs a great west or east facing window to really show off the light and gorgeous colors it hides.
