💥An IMPORTANT message from Ashley Moore, Sixes River Fire
Hello neighbors 🤎
On Sunday, there was a terrible tragedy that occurred at the swimming hole by the grange and very unfortunately, a young man lost his life. Our beautiful scenic coast has several hotspots for swimming and recreating and with the uptick in people enjoying the outdoors, there is a community movement to help with safety. We are looking to put loaner life jacket stations at 3 of our local swimming areas: the Sixes Grange, Edson Creek, and Garrison Lake. Floral Lake has one of these stations and it sees a lot of use year round, just as these 3 other locations see many people year round. This is the beginning stages of the process and we are talking with the Grange, ODF, BLM, and the City of Port Orford to allow for such a project: but the question will come up about funding and labor etc.
We are looking for
1. Contractor(s) to volunteer to build loaner stations like the one pictured.
2.) Monetary funds (about $1500 for all 3) to purchase the safety signs
3.) The building materials necessary to make these small structures.
Life jackets are already secured from the Curry CLifeguards. If we have these pieces in place, the process of actually completing th project will be much easier. It is also possible to put a logo or name on the sign if you wanted to sponsor one! Please message me or text/call me (541 285 3070) if you would like to help with this project.
Im always so amazed at our community and how we pull together in good times and bad times, and this project will make our recreating areas safer for all.
The family who suffered the loss of their father and husband on Sunday also may need some help. They have started a gofundme: the link is below. I think together we can come together to help this family through this tragic loss, as well as help possible future families, fishermen etc when in our waters. Thank you all 🧡
