GONE CAMPING! 🏕️

We're trading the gallery lights for starlight for a few days.

Makin' it Local is taking a little summer break to get some fresh air, dip our toes in a cold lake or two, and enjoy a few s'mores around the campfire*. (Okay, probably more than a few.)

The gallery will be closed while we're off doing our best impression of people who don't check their email.

We'll be back, refreshed and hopefully smelling only slightly like campfire*, on Wednesday, August 19th.

We hope to see you then—or anytime thereafter—for more Seriously Great Art and all things Oregon.

Until then, we're Makin' it Local... just a little farther out in the woods.

Just a little Thursday tune-up! 🛠️🎨

We'll be giving the gallery a little TLC Thursday morning, so our doors will open a bit later than usual.

✨ Thursday Hours: 2 PM–5 PM

All the Seriously Great Art will spring back to life at 2 PM, and we'll be ready to welcome you in to explore what's new, discover your next favorite piece, or simply say hello.

Thanks for your patience while we take care of a few behind-the-scenes projects. Sorry for any inconvenience—we promise it'll be worth the wait!

See you Thursday afternoon!

Oh PIN... we're open today! 🎳

Good news—we're open today and, as things stand now, we also plan to be open Saturday and Sunday during our regular hours.

As with everything surrounding the Akawa Butte Fire, conditions can change quickly. If fire activity, road closures, or public safety concerns affect our hours, we'll post updates here as soon as we know.

If you're planning a visit from outside Sisters, we recommend giving the gallery a quick call before heading our way to confirm we're open.

To our firefighters, first responders, and everyone working to protect our community—thank you. Stay safe, stay informed, and if you're in town this weekend, we'd love to see you.

Heading Out with Some Precious Cargo...

Today we're taking a few of our most treasured pieces to a safe location while we continue to keep a close eye on the Akawa Butte Fire. We'd much rather be helping you find the perfect piece of Oregon art, but protecting the artwork entrusted to us—and our artists' work—comes first.

We expect to be open Friday, weather- and fire-dependent. Before making the trip, please give the gallery a call at 541-904-4722 for the latest hours and updates.

As we mentioned in our previous post, Makin' it Local Hours. We encourage everyone to stay safe, be informed, and follow the guidance of public safety officials.

If you're looking for a way to support our community tomorrow, stop by the Hold the Line Pig Roast at Lazy Z Ranch (68540 US-20, Sisters). Hosted by our friends at Luckey’s Woodsman, the event supports our community, evacuees, and the incredible first responders working tirelessly to protect us. First responders and those affected by the fires eat first.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in on us, our artists, and our fellow downtown businesses. We look forward to seeing you if is safe.

❤️ Stay safe. Stay informed. Take care of one another.

If you're planning to visit Sisters and Makin' it Local in the coming days, you may want to consider another time so you can fully experience everything our amazing little town has to offer. But if your plans aren't flexible, we're happy you're coming! ❤️

The Akawa Butte Fire remains active northeast of Sisters, and much of the City of Sisters is currently under a Level 1 (Be Ready) evacuation notice.

What does Level 1 mean? It is NOT a notice to leave. A Level 1 notice simply means public safety officials want everyone to stay informed, be prepared, and be ready if conditions change. It's an early notification designed to give people plenty of time to get organized—it does not indicate immediate danger.

If you're visiting Sisters, here are a few things to expect:

🚒 You may see increased fire engine traffic and heavy equipment on area roads.

🏪 Some businesses may have modified hours or temporary closures as owners and employees respond to changing conditions.

🌬️ Smoke conditions can change throughout the day depending on weather and fire activity.

At Makin' it Local, our hours may vary depending on fire conditions and any changing public safety recommendations. If you're planning to stop by, you're always welcome to swing by, or give us a call first at 541-904-4722 for the latest store hours.

Before traveling, check current fire information, road conditions, and local updates so you know what to expect. A little planning can help make your visit safer and more enjoyable.

Our thoughts and gratitude are with the firefighters, emergency personnel, and everyone working tirelessly to protect our community. ❤️

Our friends over at Explore Sisters have put together an excellent resource with current fire information and helpful links:

🚨 Heads Up! 🚨

We'll be closed Tuesday, July 21 for a very glamorous day off...

Okay... not glamorous at all.

We'd love to tell you we're skydiving, paddleboarding a hidden alpine lake, or sipping something cold on a mountain summit. The truth?

We'll be trimming junipers and clearing bitterbrush for wildfire safety.

It's not exactly Instagram influencer material, but protecting our little corner of Central Oregon feels like a pretty good reason to spend the day covered in dirt instead of artwork.

We'll be back Wednesday from 10:00 AM–5:00 PM, and then it's regular hours for the rest of the week.

Fair warning: when you stop by on Wednesday, there's a decent chance we'll smell like fresh-cut juniper, sagebrush, bitterbrush... and maybe just a hint of hard work. Fortunately, the gallery will still smell like Seriously Great Art.

See you Wednesday!

The morning after...

The streets are a little quieter. The chairs are empty. The quilts have been carefully packed away. And if we're being honest... we're already missing all of you.

For more than two decades, Makin' it Local and High Desert Frameworks! have had the privilege of participating in various capacities at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, and every year we're reminded why we continue to say "yes" to the next year.

We're humbled to witness the incredible amount of heart, dedication, and teamwork that goes into making this event possible. Hundreds of volunteers donate their time. The talented instructors of Quilters Affair generously share their knowledge. Executive Director Dawn, the board, and countless behind-the-scenes organizers work tirelessly all year long. And, of course, the quilters themselves travel from near and far, sharing the creativity and craftsmanship that inspire us all.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to Jean and Val, whose vision, leadership, and passion laid the foundation for something truly extraordinary. Their influence will continue to inspire this event and this community for many years to come.

The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show has become so much more than an annual event. It has helped shape the identity of Sisters, Oregon, bringing visitors from around the world while showcasing the warmth, generosity, and creativity that make this community so special. We are incredibly grateful to be a veryall part of that story.

The show also wouldn't happen without the generous support of its many sponsors. We encourage everyone to take a look at the businesses and organizations that help make this remarkable event possible:

If the Quilt Show has brought you joy, inspiration, or unforgettable memories, please consider supporting this amazing 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a donation:

From all of us at Makin' it Local and High Desert Frameworks!—thank you to everyone who made another unforgettable Quilt Show possible. We're proud to stand beside this incredible organization, and we're already looking forward to welcoming everyone back next year.

Quilters... It's Thursday, and your next stop is Makin' it Local!

Today we're thrilled to welcome Cheryl Chapman of Silly Dog Art Glass for her Artist Reception from 3:00–5:30 PM!

If you've admired Cheryl's work as the 2024 Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show Poster Artist, now's your chance to meet the artist behind the magic.

Cheryl's stunning birds, flowers, and nature-inspired creations begin as sheets of clear glass. She hand-paints every detail on the back of the glass using powdered glass enamels, firing each layer in the kiln before fusing the glass together into luminous works of art. The result? Glass that glows with incredible color, depth, and craftsmanship.

As if that wasn't exciting enough...

We're also celebrating the release of THREE NEW open-edition fine art prints created from Cheryl's original glass artwork! Available in 8×10, 11×14, and 16×20, these beautiful prints make Cheryl's artwork more collectible than ever.

Join us for an afternoon of art, conversation, wine, refreshments, and light hors d'oeuvres—and discover why Cheryl's work has become a Quilt Week tradition at Makin' it Local.

We'll see you this afternoon!
