“I joined the Lincoln and Omaha LEGO User Group and built my first MOC in 2017: a small reinterpretation of an M.C. Escher piece. I won't put myself in the company of the Dutch genius, but it turned out to be a sign of where I'd be going with this hobby.”

“In the last decade I have gone down various paths with math, art, perspective, new build techniques, and visual effects I have never seen in LEGO before. One thing is for sure -- my builds seem to be getting bigger!”

“These crazy swings result in some doubles, some strikeouts, and (I think) the occasional home run.”

“My greatest achievement as a builder was being invited to give my "TED talk" to the upper class assembly of the Isidore Newman School as the annual speaker for the Andrew Elkins Memorial Fund for the Creative Arts (my MOC made it there and back too!).”

“My greatest achievement as an AFOL was being entrusted with the LOLUG presidency for two terms, and all the great friends I have made along the way!”

“I am bringing this oversized portrait of a great American genius (stressing: *not* putting myself in the same company!) to Brick Falls...”

“I have been building and playing with Lego for over 20 years now. It has always been something I have enjoyed doing. My main love with Lego is the Bionicle theme, but I do still build with standard bricks.
At Brick Days Omaha in 2024, I won best in show with my USS South Dakota Battleship. That really meant a lot since it was the public saying that they liked my moc the most out of everything at the show.”

“Helping start SODALUG with Josh back in March/April of 2022 really opened up a whole new world. Little did I know that it would lead to meeting so many awesome people and helping put on our own Lego show!”

If you saw our previous post, you already know about the big collaborative build we’ve been planning!

This incredible mosaic was designed by SODALUG member Mark Sreff.

Here’s a little backstory on the project: At one of our monthly meetings, we held a pitch day where members could share ideas for our next large collaborative build. Mark presented this mosaic concept, and it quickly stood out.

In the end, we thought why not make it even bigger by getting the community involved too? And what’s a better place to do that than at Brick Falls!

Rachel and Travis both grew up building LEGO, but stepped away as they got older. After having their first child, Travis pulled out his old sets and rediscovered the hobby with his first son once he was old enough.

Not long after, they found SODALUG and jumped in together. Now they build both solo and as a team. They have even reached 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas, EACH! Which is a huge accomplishment

These days, their hobby has grown into running a BrickLink store and sharing their biggest project yet, Atlantis, on YouTube, with plans to bring it to Brick Falls!

Their youtube handle is , and our Bricklink store name as well as Facebook name are both: Trav & Chel's MOC Shop

Josh Nilson is our fearless leader here in South Dakota, as the founder of SODALUG and current president, and the reason we have this amazing show in Sioux Falls.

With 15 years of MOC building experience and 20+ awards from shows across the U.S. and Canada, his impact on the LEGO community speaks for itself.

He highlights his favorite types of builds through his breathtaking landscape work in detailed medieval and castle builds, each one rich with story and craftsmanship.

Aaron Alberts, a member of the host LUG , has been a LEGO fan for as long as he can remember. What started with Star Wars sets at birthdays and Christmas has grown into a full creative passion… especially through his work at , broadening his knowledge and ideas when it comes to LEGO.

Now, Aaron channels that passion into building his own creations inspired by the themes he loves most. Lord of the Rings, medieval, DnD, and Marvel, and any other random things that kicks off ideas for his MOCs

This stunning Middle-earth mosaic was a highlight from last year’s show, combining his love for LOTR with a long-time goal of creating a mosaic-style build. And if you missed it… good news 👀

He is planning to bring it back this year!

Plus, he’s got a brand-new project from his favorite Dreamworks franchise in the works… but that reveal will have to wait 🤫

Adventure Awaits! 🌍🧭

Each year at Brick Falls, we choose a theme to help inspire builders and tie the show together. A theme isn’t a strict rule. it’s simply a creative starting point to spark ideas for what you might build. (You don’t have to build to the theme)

This year’s theme is Adventure Awaits, which can be interpreted in many ways. Your build could feature explorers discovering new lands, daring treasure hunts, epic journeys, jungle expeditions, mountain climbs, space travel, underwater quests, or anything that captures the spirit of adventure.

Whether it’s a small scene or a massive display, if it tells a story of discovery, exploration, or excitement…. it fits the theme!

We can’t wait to see where your imagination takes you. Adventure truly awaits at Brick Falls!
