Twenty-three years ago today, Jonathan passed from earth, but he remains alive in our hearts and minds.

Wherever his energy is right now, I believe he would say:

"Live your best life! Don't give up during the dark days. Be kind to yourself. Move forward and let the past go. You are loved."

I don't know who all needs to hear this right now, but whoever you are, we are sending you strength and peace.

And always, remember to dance! If you can't dance, well, then, balter! 😉 Enjoy living!

With love,
Jon's mom

On the evening of Thursday, May 30, 2002, 22 years ago, Jonathan left this earth, unexpectedly. I like to think of him as living in a parallel dimension, enjoying life, doing all the things he enjoys, and making others smile.

Shortly after his burial, I dreamt that he was performing in a small amphitheater that had been built in the circle of green grass near his grave (in Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City). It was a comedy/musical, and the audience was having so much fun... almost as much fun as the cast! The audience included those who had passed on as well as those still around.

Whenever I get to visit his resting place, I don't imagine him resting. I imagine him performing in that beautiful green circle.... and laughter rings throughout the cemetery.

Today, in his honor, find a moment, a reason, to enjoy your life and in doing so make someone smile.

Love,
Jon's mom

I visited with Jacob Gill, who received the scholarship this year, at his grad party today. He is going to do wonderful! I am so glad that I was able to direct this young man in two One Act plays while teaching at SSC. Jon's memory lives on through these young individuals.

Jacob Gill is the recipient of the 2024 Jonathan David Phillips Performing Arts Scholarship. He wrote, "From the first time I walked on stage in South Sioux City High School’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof” in 2015, to my final district One Act performance, I have only experienced the best friendships."

P A U S E

To breathe
To be thankful
To be patient
To see the beauty around you
To say a kind word
To do a kind deed
To forgive one thing
To let go
To live.

It's been 21 years since Jonathan passed from earth.
Today honor his memory...
Blow bubbles...sing in the street... do something fun!
Be kind to yourself.
Be kind to those you love.
Be kind to a stranger, even a grouchy one.
Above all, be thankful.

Love and peace to all.
