U.S. Healthcare System Ranks Last Among 10 Peer Nations
There are major votes going on in Congress today that all Americans should be aware of and actively connecting with their elected representatives on.
I just had major surgery that required an over night hospital stay. Because I have worked for the University of California for over ten years and have insurance, my out of pocket cost was $250. Total. This has allowed me to focus on my recovery and not be worried about going into debt for taking care of my health, or even worse, not have the surgery. (Pic is post surgery with my excellent family caregivers 🙂)
Today’s vote could mean, at minimum, 21 million Americans will have massive increases to their insurance premiums and out of pocket costs, effective 1/1/26, and will have to decide if they have to cancel their insurance because they simply cannot afford it. This includes working families with children.
Having worked in public health for years at UC Berkeley, I learned how much the health of all affects each of us. Do your research and learn more about the votes happening today and reach out to your elected officials if you also think it is ridiculous that a country as large and powerful as the US is not making healthcare affordable and available to all.
