Made for nice remembrances to put on the wall next to the trophies!

If a drawing could fly… I’d have golden coming out of the pages and landing in my room!

I’ve been working this eagle design for a new painting and at first it was too small, then still too small, too big and maybe just now I got it just the right size!(?). I still have to make a decision on the back wing position and I’m itching to start painting it!

I have about 20-30 different photos I’m using for reference but the image in my head is the one I hope can come through in the end.

It’s too late in the night to get any farther, but for now I’m content with the new progress. And it’s fun to take a memorable photo of my works and failures before some of these original “drafts” end up in tomorrow’s fireplace! 🔥

I finally sat down to try some new watercolor pencils that were gifted to me by my lovely artist friend . As I was in a small hurry to get outside, I forgot to bring a brush so I ended up dipping my fingers in the Animas River to smooth over the pencil pigments, enhancing the colors into the rich watercolor that comes from these pencils. This was such a fun creative process. I hope to put the videos I took into a Reel for you but for now, here’s the final sketch.

This is the 3rd painting of 3 I submitted into Artist Magazine 42nd Annual arts competition. This is the largest competition I’ve ever entered (I’m sure there are thousands of entries so I’ll be more than stoked if I just get short listed into the finals). I’m sure I’ll grow through the process no matter what and it feels exciting to work more at getting my art into the world.

The magic is in the process of working with my hands on art in the outdoors… scribing to the rhythm of bird song and dew drops.

I just finished my second sgaffito carving on a clay bowl that was made by my friend, . I’m excited to see how this one turns out after being glazed and fired.

The image in the center is the Vegvísir. Like a compass showing you the path that’s hard to see, it’s a symbol of guidance and protection.

The tracks of the bull elk (or buck) are also leading the way and showing the elements of power and grace and connection the land.

Above the tracks are arrows which to me are symbolizing the mountains and they are in unison with the tracks that are there for us to follow and learn from.

Some new earring designs that will be donated to my son’s field trip fundraiser tomorrow night at El Bandito in Silverton CO. If your close and want to join, there will be lots of great items for the silent auction and a portion of all drinks and food will be donated to the 6th-8th grade class for their field trip to Chicago in the spring. Their Mexican food is best in town! 😉😜

Introducing… one of my painted feathers! Acrylics on a verreaux’s eagle feather. This is a delicate process and definitely one of a kind. I do not “fix” the feather in any way before I start to paint. Delicate hands and very little pressure and lots of thin layers is the key to making feather painting work without spreading the feather follicles apart which would never zip back together with the disturbance of the paint.

I was also honored to meet the eagle in person and in great care! Thanks to Dave Kanellis and Civon.

Important note that this is not a native eagle so it’s not under protection in the US.
