I’m excited to share that my artwork has been accepted into Lean Into Abstraction, an exhibition celebrating the expressive possibilities of abstract art through color, form, texture, and gesture.

The opening reception will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 5:30–7:30 p.m at Oregon Art Center (Oregon Society of Artists) 2185 SW Park Place Portland, Oregon 97205. I look forward to sharing my work alongside so many talented artists and hope to see you there!

One of the things I love most about exhibiting at Lunaria Gallery is the opportunity to meet the people who connect with my work. Sometimes those conversations lead to something unexpected and wonderful.

Recently, a couple spent quite a bit of time looking at my TerraSphere sculptures display in the April show, “Reflections in Borrowed Light”. They were drawn to several different pieces, each for a different reason. One had a color palette they loved. Another featured a pattern that caught their eye. A third included textures and materials that resonated with them. The challenge? They couldn’t decide which one to take home.

As we talked, it became clear that what they really wanted wasn’t one sculpture or another—it was a piece that combined the elements they loved most from each of them.

So I offered to create a commissioned TerraSphere just for them.

Together, we discussed the features that spoke to them: the colors, the patterns, the arrangement of mosaic elements, and the overall feeling they wanted the sculpture to convey. Rather than choosing between several works, they would have a piece uniquely their own and inspired by other sculptures.

This particular project was especially rewarding because the couple was such a joy to work with. They trusted the process, communicated clearly, and were genuinely excited to see the sculpture come together. Their enthusiasm made it enjoyable.
Art has a way of bringing people together, and sometimes the best pieces emerge from a conversation that starts with a simple question: “How do we choose?”

In this case, the answer was easy.
We didn’t choose one sculpture.
We created a new one.

We lost a true creative force—Dan Fontes—an artist who made incredible murals in the Bay Area.
We met in a neon class at the The Crucible in Oakland, bonded over glowing tubes and a shared love of pinball. That’s how it started—but like all the best connections, it quickly became something more.
When I won a Best in Show at the Carnegie Art Center, I used the prize money to commission a giraffe mural on my house. I thought I was bringing home a piece of art—but what I really got was precious times. Evenings around the table, feeding Dan and his assistant, laughing, swapping stories… those nights became the best part of the process. Honestly, we should have commissioned something bigger just to keep him around longer.
Dan had that rare magic—he created beauty, yes, but more than that, he created connection. Joy. Community. Friendships.
The world lost a creative force—but what he made, and how he made people feel, is how I will remember him. Oh my dear friend, I will imagine you somewhere up there, painting something impossibly large, impossibly joyful… decorating heaven with more of your masterpieces.
