Ice Lake Basin šŸ“Silverton, CO
This hike is definitely in the top 5 of my favorites… ever. I’d call it moderately strenuous with quite a bit of elevation gain over a relatively short mileage, but absolutely breathtaking the entire way. I mean like so pretty you didn’t know where to look. The landscape was teeming with wildflowers but still had fall foliage, marmots were beeping all around, the more you climbed the more humongous mountains you could see, and Alpine lakes like I’ve never seen before. Island lake was a stunning blue/green with streaks of light and dark sitting in the basin of massive gray peaks… I’ve never seen anything like it. Ice Lake was turquoise blue like you’d expect to see in the ocean… maybe the Bahamas? Honestly I don’t know what water looks this freakishly blue but it’s just outstanding. I could go on and on but this place is a special one for me šŸ–¤ also shoutout to the Honda Fit for letting me take it out on many many dirt roads šŸ˜… iso someone to jack it up for more clearance and get me 4 wheel drive. Is that a thing? Imagine. 4x4 Honda Fit. I like it 😁 … Anyway! Southwestern Colorado is a dream and a half. You should definitely go.

The Colorado Trail šŸ“Silverton, CO
After a long, but beautiful, day of driving, I managed to squeeze in a quick hike on the Colorado Trail. The weather was nearly perfect for hiking and the trail was surprisingly easy considering all the huge mountains that surrounded the area. Got to hang out/sleep in the park in the tiny trail town of Silverton and it was so fun :) I also saw my first bull moose on the drive to one of the trailheads so that was incredibly exciting. Southwestern Colorado is really something else šŸ–¤

Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP šŸ“CO
Apparently, this is one of the least visited National Parks and I cannot understand why. Visiting the park mainly consists of driving to different parking areas and walking out to several different overlooks. Each overlook provides a different view of this GIGANTIC canyon. I had so much fun looking at the different rock features, little lizards and birds that were hanging out here. The formations here are really hard to capture with a camera and seeing this place in person is dizzying it’s so big haha not to mention it’s a Dark Sky area so stargazing is a must :)

Maroon Bells šŸ“ Aspen, CO
Headed out to Aspen after a few days of rain and Maroon Bells was the perfect place to stretch the legs šŸ˜ the drive from Leadville to Aspen is absolutely stunning and requires stopping the car at least every few hundred feet haha. The landscape in this area has pretty much everything you could ask for: snow covered peaks, yellow Aspen forests, jagged red rocks, some wildflowers clinging on to the last of summer and even an abundance of wild raspberries! We love the Snowmass Wilderness šŸ–¤

Attempted: Mt. Missouri : 14,071 ft.
Since finishing the AT, I’ve had quite a few people ask me what lessons I learned from my experience on the trail. I could rattle off a million if I had to, but I have to say, being able to listen to my gut and to be confident and comfortable in my decisions as a result has been the one I’ve carried with me the most so far.
My hike today was the perfect reflection of that gut feeling working on me even though I didn’t want it to… I started off the day hoping to bag another 14,000 ft peak, Mt. Missouri, and got myself ready to go in every way I knew how. Since we had a good forecast, I slept at the trail head and started my day at dawn just like you’re supposed to. I headed out to blue skies, cold air, and gorgeous views. As I continued to approach the last section of climbing to the summit, the winds picked up and clouds rolled through. ā€œSh*t. I didn’t pack out pants. Im freezingā€ I kept pushing. ā€œCan’t feel my fingersā€ kept going. Then the dark clouds and strong wind gusts came through and I knew I needed to stop. Could I have made it physically? Absolutely. But I wasn’t prepared for the weather to shift the way it did. So I turned around and headed back down the mountain… and I felt great about it. As I descended further, the clouds got darker and the sleet/ hail came through and I was positive turning around was the right thing to do. I took a lot of comfort in the fact that I did not fail. I made a smart choice and stayed safe because I was underprepared for hike I had planned. Even though I didn’t summit, I can still say I had an amazing day and not a miserable/scary one. That mountain will always be there and I’ll be back one day :)
And also I think Instagram needs to see more people trying things and not doing them perfectly… so here’s me… not summiting the mountain I wanted to and feeling very okay with it šŸ–¤
Mother Nature is the boss. That is all.

Pikes Peak šŸ“Manitou Springs, CO
Hiked my first 14,000 foot mountain today and it was absolutely breathtaking. Hiked about 12.5-13 miles from bottom to top (give or take haha the signage was confusing), gained about 8,000 feet in elevation and did not get sick! Locals said aspen leaves will probably start to turn yellow a bit late this year so I felt super lucky to see some starting to change once we got to higher elevations. Peep a marmot that screamed at us šŸ˜‚ I just love the west.

Appalachian Trail Mile 2194.3
September 1, 2022 after 168 days on the AT, I completed my Thru Hike. This adventure changed my life in every way, expected and not. Thank you so much to every person who supported me, gave me a ride, did trail magic, housed me, fed me, and made this journey a once in a lifetime experience. A big thank you to my tramily who made the trail what it was šŸ–¤ WE DID IT!

Appalachian Trail Miles 2000-2100
1. Cheesin’ on Avery Peak in the Bigelows 😁 This range is one of the best in Maine and I easily could have spent hours up here… I mayyy have ended up doing some night hiking due to spending quite awhile on the summits, but that’s what it’s all about!
2. The amount of mountain top ponds and lakes in this state…. I just love it :)
3. Bigelow West Peak šŸ–¤
4. My first grand view in the 100 Mile Wilderness just after sunrise. Still one of my favorites from the trail!
5. Sometimes you happen upon a lake and it’s hot so you swim and then you get hungry so you eat your lunch and then you stay there for a long long time and then you realize you won’t make it to camp before dark so you night hike forever and ever to make up for it but it was worth it because swimming.
6. RIP to my feet omg 😭
7. Shaw’s! The last hostel before Baxter State Park and the Summit of Katahdin šŸ˜ we had such an amazing stay here complete with one of the yummiest breakfasts on trail. Planned our days and packed our bags full before heading into the 100 Mile Wilderness :)
8. Cute sploot
9. ā€œCAUTION. There are no palaces to obtain supplies or get help until Abol Bridge 100 miles North. Do not attempt this section unless you have a minimum of 10 days of supplies and are fully equipped. This is the longest wilderness section of the entire A.T. and it’s difficulty should not be underestimated. Good hiking!ā€ All smiles heading into the 100 Mile Wilderness with 6 days of food. So heavy šŸ˜…
10. 2100 miles hiked!

Appalachian Trail Miles 1900-2000
1. The most amazing action shot while crawling, climbing and jumping through ā€œThe Longest Mileā€ on the AT, Mahoosic Notch. This section of trail took us a super long time to complete, but we had such a blast!
2. We officially can say we’ve walked from Georgia to Maine! Onward to Katahdin 🄲
3. Me wedged in a little rock crevice in the Notch :)
4. Hiking on Baldpate, one of my favorites in Maine!
5. Took a lil johnboat out for a spin in one of Maine’s many trailside ponds
6. Cheesin’ on Saddleback! Another one of my favorites in Maine šŸ–¤
7. A little pond in a valley in the Saddleback range
8. Summiting another Maine 4K, The Horn
9. Eating wild blueberries on Sugarloaf Mountain… it’s a daily thing in Maine :) this summit is actually about a half a mile off the AT, but we were allowed to sleep inside the lift operating room which made it super worth it for the bonus miles. We had the whole mountain to ourselves, ate all the blueberries we could, had amazing views and a beautiful sunset. Choosing your own adventure on the AT is a must for experiences like these šŸ–¤
10. Cider trail magic that we packed up the mountain to celebrate hiking 2000 miles on the Appalachian Trail 🄲 big cheers!

Appalachian Trail Miles 1800-1900 … Pt. 3
1. A s t u n n i n g dinner and sunset on Mt. Height just after completing the Whites :)
2. Views during my traverse of the Presidential Range šŸ˜
3. View from my lunch spot In the middle of the Presidentials. Since this section of trail is all above tree line, you need to complete it during the day and then get below tree line to camp safely. This was about halfway through the day šŸ–¤
4. My early evening view from the top of Madison, the last peak in the Presidentials. The decent down this mountain was pretty scary for about a mile (lost of butt scootching and careful steps) and then a few more steep miles down to the base. My knees were so happy to get to camp after this day!
5. Climbing the Wildcats! This was a really tough day, but lots of fun. There were climbs that definitely ventured into rock climbing and gecko status. But as the saying goes, the harder the climb the better the view…. It doesn’t always work this way on the AT but I digress haha
6. Having lunch on Wildcat D Peak. Sitting on the lift made me happy.
7. Sunset on Mt. Height. So good. Much wind.
8. The view from Mt. Moriah, the last climb in the White National Forest. Like the rest of the Whites, it was gorgeous šŸ–¤
9. Resupply time! And yes. We did take a baby wipe hiker bath in front of Walmart. Sometimes you gotta.
10. 1900 miles hiked!

Appalachian Trail Miles 1800-1900… pt. 2
1. My blue skies summit photo on Mt. Washington! I had to wait a few hours after my true summit to snag this photo, but boy oh boy was it worth the wait!
2. My true summit photo on Mt. Washington :) the weather up here is totally wild and can go from good to bad really quickly. In my case, it went from pretty gross, foggy and cold, to absolutely beautiful!
3. The Presidential Range being insanely stunning. Can’t believe I got to look at this view all day long as I hiked 🄲
4. One of the mountain lakes on the climb up Mt. Washington
5. The view from the top of Mt. Clay. Another Blue Blaze but wowee was it worth the extra mileage!
6. Exhibits of how wild Mt. Washington is… like the building… that is chained to the ground… bc wind 😳
7. Crossing the cog train tracks that carry loads and loads of people up the mountain each day. I have mixed feeling about it being there but overall im glad a place as wildly cool as Mt. Washington is accessible to all.
8. The Prezzies. I love.
9. Camping at Zeacliffs! Another blue blaze but again… so worth it
10. Hiker takeover at the Galehead Hut while in search of breakfast leftovers from the guests. No shame in the game.

Ashen Ceramics

Hi all, welcome to Ashen Ceramics! I am Hannah, the artist and maker behind Ashen Ceramics. For as long as I can remember, I have had a deep seated passion for ceramics. When I graduated college in 2018, I spent the weekend with a family friend and career ceramicist, Trey Eppes, to learn the basics of wheel thrown pottery. After that weekend of nonstop wheel-work, I was hooked. I discovered the meditative qualities provided by pottery work and I quite literally could not stop. Since that weekend, I have been completely self taught. I have spent countless hours practicing forms and creating personal and unique designs. Although this is still my quote on quote "side hustle", I absolutely love what I do and I hope you do to! Are there any specific items you are hoping to see? Please let me know and I will do my best to make it happen for you! I adore collaboration and I want you as a customer to feel a sense of connection to the pieces that you buy. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy your Ashen Ceramics goodies as much as I did making them!
