Reflecting on my first time making an animated short. I wanted to try out putting my memories out there and celebrate past wins because time really moves way too fast. Let me know if the feeling resonates at all.

I made my first ever animated short in 2010. It was called ‘Lulu’s Accidental Adventure’, about a girl who loses her cat and has to go down a literal rabbit hole to find him.

This was my first experience outside of drawing in my sketchbook where I experflow state. I found myself working well after class and on weekends to finish it in time. I only had 3 weeks and wanted every aspect I wrote and boarded to fit into the film (I don’t recommend doing this).

The music and sound were either clipped from random songs I wad listening to at the time or freesound.org . It was a mash-up of visuals and gags from older cartoons that I loved.

In the end, I felt so proud to finish something entirely on my own. I sent it to my friends and my teachers who all said, “awesome!”. And that was it. Nothing else was meant to happen, but to know that I could do it. Finishing a project is always the hardest. The next question was, could I do it again?

I was so honored to be able to animate for Luis Reyes’s short film ‘The Sword of Carranza: Hocico en la Oscuridad’. Studying fantasy art from the 🐐 Frank Frazetta and drawing fight scenes is all I wanna do all the time. Thank you luis a reyes for inviting me to help with this awesome project!! 🐉🗡️🐽
