A brief history of Elston House.
My name is Matt. I have 3 kids and a wife Sarah. You will see them around the store. We moved to Sidney about 8 years ago seaching for a great school system, solid infrastructure, a place to grow and have opportunity. Cheyenne County fit the bill. People always ask why Sidney? Thats part of it but also the open skys, knowing your neighbor, and living a simple life.
Then enters Elston House. Planned but not planned. I setup 2 studios here and they just were never enough. And I think the goal was to make something others could enjoy also. I also liked the old buildings downtown and wanted to save one. The history is super important to me. Alot of effort by generations go into these buildings.
More about me I guess. My back story is in IT working for a large healthcare company. It in bodies some of principles of what I lead with in Elston House. I always called my self a Network Artist inventing and making large systems that bettered people's lives. I brought my spark to that over many years but there was always that little thing missing and that is seeing the direct impact. I look at as what does your story leave or what legacy is left behind. I saw Elston House as a way to clean up that part of what was missing. Its a legacy that was built by hand (many) and directly touches a community.
Elston House was built maybe unconventional in a way by dumping money in solo as a family and purchasing a building. The building had to be purchased to make this idea work. We used a bunch of resources around town. E3, chambers, other business, and on and on. I listened to alot of people. I think that's important to learn the heart beat of the job.
We executed on Elston House for almost 2 and half years before it was open with all outs for finances. But it was part of the trial of seeing if you could support an idea with no income there. Yes, there were other jobs there you have to pay the bills that's the game. But I wanted to see Elston House punch a ticket that gave it solid ground. So we put in the extra hours and thats required sometimes.
What do the next 5, 10 or 20 years look like? Well that's easy as its very calculated. We have some fun things coming.
But a long post but wanted you to learn a little about what makes this tick and also because I like to know you as well. It is a place that was made to better everyone including me.
