FIVE YEARS….They say time flies when you’re having fun, and boy are they right! Five years ago today, we received the keys to a treasured Shreveport institution. A home away from home for hundreds, possibly even thousands of dancers over the previous 60 years. A true honor and awesome responsibility that we approached with both fear and excitement.
However, we’ve known all along that God created an incredible place in Shreveport Dance Academy, and we were ready to follow his lead for its next chapter. Over the last five years, we have worked purposely to follow His plan and continue the legacy of greatness while finding ways to propel Shreveport Dance Academy forward, maintaining its hold as the premiere studio for dance instruction in our Shreveport/Bossier community.
So, we’ve been busy…
- Teaching classical techniques in disciplines like classical ballet, jazz, tap and modern using a proprietary curriculum that begins with our youngest dancers
- Offering more dance opportunities to our students not only by bringing talent to SDA to work with our dancers, but also by networking to create partnerships and connections that directly benefit our students
- Regularly hosting world class instructors like Albert Blaise Cattafi, Dejan Tubic, and The Joffrey Workshop
- Adding adult dance classes and performance opportunities
- Increasing our class availability and offerings
- Adding summer technique classes so that our dancers of all ages can continue to grow throughout the year
- Maintaining an all adult teaching staff
- Instituting a classroom assistant program
- Building a true competition team that refines the whole performer
- Expanding our competitive reach to include representation at National competitions and conventions
- Working with the Volunteers of America, North Louisiana to bring dance education to underserved areas of our community
- Continuing to foster the Shreveport Metro Ballet’s mission to educate the community in the art of classical ballet
- Supporting our community with annual charitable campaigns
- Renovating and reimagining our space
- Opening our space to the community for events and parties
- Creating a studio culture of love, support, acceptance, and encouragement for dancers and their families
We haven’t done any of this work alone, and we are so thankful for our amazing team of instructors and support staff, as well as our incredible dancers and their families. Together we are all living the dream and experiencing the extraordinary possibilities that come from following God’s plan. Thank you for a wonderful first five years! 💜🤍🖤
