The Poet’s Diary
November 1, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
Experience an afternoon where poetry and music unite! This program features settings of poetry by William Shakespeare, William Blake, Langston Hughes, Emily Dickinson, and more! The program also features the premiere of Deep in the Night, a new work dedicated to the Shreveport Bossier Community Chorale by Artistic Director Luke Lusted. This concert is free and open to the public and is hosted by First Baptist Church Shreveport

Verdi Requiem
April 24, 2027 at 7:30 p.m.
The Shreveport Symphony Orchestra closes its season with the profound and powerful Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi, one of the most dramatic and moving choral works ever written. The SBC Chorale will be one of the participating choirs. From the thunderous "Dies Irae" to moments of breathtaking stillness, Verdi's Requiem delivers an unforgettable and deeply emotional concert experience. Meet the Director!

Dr. Luke Lusted serves as the artistic director and conductor of the Shreveport Bossier Community Chorale. His vision for the organization is to build community and enrich lives through the choral arts by presenting meaningful artistic and musical experiences. He believes that through the creative programming of each concert, both singers and audiences will be engaged, inspired, and empowered by the transformative power of music.

About Luke:

Dr. Luke Lusted is a professional tenor and has performed and recorded with groups such as the Grammy Award-winning Phoenix Chorale and the Grammy-nominated True Concord Voices and Orchestra, where he was also the former Assistant Director. Most recently, he recorded Bach’s Mass in B-Minor with the Austin-based period ensemble Philharmonie Austin. He currently serves as the Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA, the Artistic Director of the Shreveport Bossier Community Chorale, and the Executive Director of the Academy for the Arts. Luke holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting, the Master of Music in Choral Conducting, both from the University of Arizona, and the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Louisiana Tech University. As an active singer, Luke has performed across the United States and Europe with notable conductors including Dale Warland, Charles Bruffy, Joshua Habermann, Anton Armstrong, Chris Gabbitas, and Eric Holtan, and in prestigious venues such as Ely Cathedral, Wiener Musikverein, Rudolfinum's Dvořák Hall, and Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. As a composer and arranger, Luke has received commissions from churches, schools, and various music organizations across the country. His compositions have been for both vocal and instrumental forces and include hymn arrangements in jazz and classical styles as well as sacred and secular original works.

Today, we would like to recognize and thank our collaborative pianist, Dr. Gay Grosz. On Saturday's program, she will be playing piano and organ.

She plays such a vital part in the rehearsals and performances. We could not do what we do without her support, musicianship, and friendship.

About Dr. Grosz:

Dr. Gay Grosz is known regionally as a soloist, collaborator, adjudicator, and teacher. She is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Centenary College where she teaches piano, accompanying, chamber music and music theory. She served as Minister of Music at the First United Methodist Church in Minden for 10 years before accepting the position as Music Associate Organist at First Baptist Church, where she plays the organ and directs the handbell choir. She received her undergraduate degree from Centenary College where she studied with Constance Carroll. She earned both her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from LSU in Baton Rouge. She has served as accompanist for the international Nena Wideman Piano Competition, Shreveport Opera, East Texas Opera, the prestigious LSU A Capella Choir, and Opera LSU. Dr. Grosz is principal pianist for the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the Evangeline Trio and the Baroque Artists of Shreveport.
