Jewelry Prototype

The spiral: the eternal sign of the creative and organising principle at work in the universe.

I find working in new mediums helps open doors to new ideas in others. The constant evolution of the creative spirit evolving from the center to all possibilities as it spirals out from the initial spark. The constant evolution of what it means to be human..……………………………………………………………….

Tried my hand at some wire wrapped crystal jewelry. Really enjoyed the process of making these as gifts for two very good friends. Especially love how the 🌀 turned out! New processes lead to new ideas!

This print was completed in 2011 for my Printmaking Thesis. I was Studying the Mayan creation story known as the Polpol Vuh, a truly fascinating story of creation by an equally fascinating culture. The three panels represent the Past Present and Future.

The past shows the tower built in Palenque (an architectural wonder of its time) acting as a light house shining it’s light through the subsequent panels as a metaphor of how the past illuminates and can help guide us in the present.

The panel in the middle shows a stylized Olmec head holding a diamond in it’s hands symbolizing the power of the present moment, the only moment in time we truly have to create the world around us, constantly evolving and shifting through past, present, and future.

The tree symbolizes the Tree of Life anchored into the bedrock growing endlessly through all phases of time; with time represented by the waves crashing through all three panels.

Our connection to the divine, or sacred was said to be clouded, to ensure reverence for the creational forces breathing life into the human race and physical world. The abstract pattern emits from the top of the Olmec head but the connection to the complex idea of divinity is clouded, the pattern evolves into a cosmic flower which is both familiar and beyond reach. To me it symbolizes Human-kinds relentless search for meaning and connection to forces far greater than our own.

“Reality is what your gonna make of it tonight, Stand up and listen to you soul and always be prepared to fight, because the demons they are always lurking in the night, but the dreamers will steer clear of the darkness by the starlight”

-Untitled Portrait 2022-
A section of some song lyrics I wrote years ago accompanied by an acrylic portrait from last year around this time. Mash up of two different times in life, still chasing dreams to create the reality I would like. The voices in our head can be so loud sometimes, but the stars always show there is light in the dark.

A Thursday throw back to this Lino Block print series I started about a year ago. Always loved relief carving the most out of all the printmaking techniques I learned during my BFA at MSU under the amazing . Looking forward to incorporating more of these techniques into my work. These prints were individually inked with multiple colors resulting in beautiful variations and similarities from print to print.
