We are thrilled to announce that Emmy-nominated writer, producer and showrunner Courtney A. Kemp is officially joining our Industry Panel: Producing Power & Possibility ✊🏾📺

Courtney A. Kemp’s bold storytelling has reshaped contemporary television. She is the creator of the groundbreaking STARZ series Power and the expansive Power Universe, one of television’s most successful franchises. Most recently, Kemp co-created and serves as showrunner and executive producer of Netflix’s hit crime drama Nemesis. Through her production company, End of Episode, she continues to develop ambitious, character-driven stories that center complex voices and expand what is possible for Black creators in Hollywood. We could not be more thrilled to have her voice in the room for this powerhouse conversation!�

Written by the brilliant June Carryl, this powerful piece dives deep into power, loyalty, and the price of truth. We are incredibly honored to present a first look at this celebrated play, which was the proud recipient of the Saroyan/Paul Human Rights Playwriting Prize. This special excerpt will serve as both a showcase of this brave new work and a launch pad for a larger conversation about the importance of new play development as it relates to the future of Black theatre.🧡🙌🏾

An award-winning Chicago recording artist, singer, songwriter, and storyteller, Jessica has been named an “Artist to Watch” by The Root and Buzzfeed. The countdown to the Los Angeles Black Creators Summit weekend is officially on, and we are thrilled to announce the powerhouse panel of industry leaders who will be judging this year’s Legacy Rising Monologue Competition!🙌🏾

Please welcome our esteemed judges:

✨Tracie Thoms✨– A powerhouse performer of stage, TV, and film (Rent, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Stick Fly, ABC’s 9-1-1)! We are thrilled to welcome her profound insight, artistry, and generosity to the panel.

✨Matthew Law✨ – A brilliant multi-hyphenate actor, director, and producer (Netflix’s Nemesis, ABC’s Abbott Elementary, and creator of TRUE: An Immersive Cinematic Experience). We are so excited to welcome his creative leadership and bold perspective!

✨Barry Shabaka Henley✨ – An incomparable veteran of stage and screen with an extraordinary career spanning decades, from August Wilson’s Jitney to acclaimed films like Collateral and A Star Is Born, and Netflix’s Forever. We are deeply honored to welcome an artist of his stature and profound theatrical lineage.

Our brilliant panel of judges will be celebrating eight outstanding Los Angeles County high school performers as they bring to life the works of theatrical legends, all hosted for the third consecutive year by the amazing Ryan Michelle Bathe!

THE SECRET IS OUT! 📣🎬 The phenomenal Ryan Michelle Bathe is returning for her third consecutive year to host the highly anticipated Legacy Rising Monologue Competition! 🎤

Known for her standout performances in First Wives Club, This Is Us, Boston Legal, and The Endgame, as well as writing and producing the NAACP Image Award-winning podcast WE DON’T ALWAYS AGREE with her husband Sterling K. Brown. Ryan is back as our beloved host to celebrate the next generation of Black artists.
Legacy rises when the next generation speaks! 🔥 On Saturday evening, July 11th, will conclude with 8 of Los Angeles County’s top high school performers bringing to life the works of theatrical legends Lorraine Hansberry, Alice Childress, Phillip Hayes Dean, and August Wilson.

As Ryan beautifully reminds us, “The things we create, the way we create them... is unmatched. It’s an honor to be a part of that legacy.” We are honoring the ground we stand on while building the ground our next generation deserves. ✊🏾🖤
