The WYO Film Festival (WYOFF) is an annual independent film festival in Sheridan, Wyoming, celebrating powerful stories from diverse voices.

🎬 We’re excited to introduce another of this year’s feature documentaries: THE RIVER.

For millions of years, the Colorado River has sustained communities, wildlife and landscapes across the American West. Today, that lifeline is under extraordinary pressure.

THE RIVER follows an unlikely group of people whose lives and livelihoods depend on the river as they confront dwindling reservoirs, growing demand, a changing climate and difficult questions about who gets to decide its future.

At once urgent and hopeful, the film looks at what it will take to protect one of the West’s most vital resources — and the people willing to stand up and give the river a voice.

🎬 OPENING NIGHT: PEOPLE vs. POLITICS

The 9th annual WYO Film Festival opens Thursday, October 1 with People vs. Politics, a timely documentary that goes inside the growing movement to rethink how Americans choose their elected leaders.

Following grassroots reformers across the country, the film explores efforts to open primary elections, expand ranked choice voting and challenge a political system increasingly defined by partisanship and polarization. Along the way, it asks a bigger question: Can changing the way we vote change the way we govern?

We’re excited to welcome the filmmakers to Sheridan for a special Q&A following the film. Watch the trailer for a first look, then join us opening night as we kick off four days of Wide Open Stories.

🎬 We’re excited to reveal the official poster artwork for the 9th annual WYO Film Festival presented by the Standish Family Fund, returning to Sheridan October 1–4.

This year’s theme, Wide Open Stories, is rooted in the place we call home and the power of great storytelling to broaden our perspective. Stories can take us somewhere unfamiliar, introduce us to new people and invite us to see the world—and sometimes ourselves—a little differently.
