Prorodeo Hall of Fame Inductee Ike Sankey
It is with great pleasure that we celebrate the accomplishments of Ike Sankey as he is inducted into the Prorodeo Hall of Fame. Ike and his family have had an immeasurable impact on the Sheridan WYO Rodeo and World Championship Indian Relay, and our success today is due in large part, to Ike Sankey and Sankey Pro Rodeo.
To illustrate this success, we need to go back to 1994, when the Sankey’s were hired. Our stands had 1000 people at best, added money was $1,000 per event, sponsorship dollars were approximately $10,000 and the total payout was $40,000. Ike brought new life into the rodeo by becoming our partner on a mission to grow our rodeo and he did just that.
With better stock we attracted better rodeo athletes, with superior production skills, we built a better product, which attracted more fans and sponsors. Today we are in the top 25 of all professional rodeos, with record attendance, $21,000 per event in added money, $580,000 in sponsorships, and $547,000 in total payout. To say the least, Ike has left an indelible mark on our rodeo, and it continues with his son Wade.
We are proud of Ike and deeply grateful to him and his entire family. It is our pleasure to celebrate Ike and his induction to the Prorodeo Hall of Fame, commemorating his legacy and contributions to the sport of rodeo.
