SHERIDAN STORYTELLERS IS BACK!
This is GCCT’s SIXTH STORYTELLER EVENT!!
Grant County Community Theater is excited to announce Justin Wise as the sixth
speaker in our Storyteller series. Wise is the son of former Mayor Joe Wise and Joe’s
wife, Regina Wise. Justin is also a treasured neighbor to the theater, the former First
Christian Church.
This series of county residents on stage sharing life events with the community is the
brain-child of GCCT Executive Director, Karen Appleget, who said, “The Storyteller
series allows audiences to hear stories about Grant County from life-long residents,
authors, natural storytellers, and some of our most colorful community members.”
Wise currently serves on the Sheridan City Council, is co-chair for Kick Start Sheridan,
and serves as the voice of Sheridan as master of ceremonies during the annual Timberfest event each October. You will find him live on Facebook on Saturday mornings during the summer Sheridan Farmer’s Market as he interviews market vendors and those perusing the courthouse square. He also volunteers as a freedom ride driver for rescued animals. This year marks the tenth year Justin has been a host
family for the International Student Exchange Program. Wise is the practice manager
for Healthy Connections Inc and multiple clinics. He said his proudest moment
included being one of the first Americorp recipients.
Asked what it was like to be a physical neighbor to the theater, Justin said, “I love it! I
never know what to expect when the theater calls, texts, or knocks on my door. I’ve
genuinely enjoyed watching the theater grow, volunteering to grill for the cast on
double-show weekends, sometimes serving as emcee for the Sheridan Flashback Jazz
Orchestra performances, and seeing the streets lined with activity during productions.” “My inspiration to be involved in the community comes from shared experiences with
my parents in a home that placed value on service to others,” says Wise. “I honestly
think I was well into my teen years before I realized that not every family did what we
were doing, nor that it was called ‘service’ or ‘volunteerism.’”When asked for a fun fact about his life, he said it was as a professional Elvis Presley impersonator in college where he participated in the flying Elvis chapter in central
Arkansas. Laughing, he added, “I may or may not have used a parachute”. GCCT invites you to attend our sixth Storyteller event on October 24 at 6 pm at Lancaster Hall, 407 East Center, Sheridan.
