A small piece of Shepherdstown Opera House history 🎹

This American-made Schumann upright piano dates to 1911--just one year after the Shepherdstown Opera House was built in 1910. A piano like this would once have provided musical accompaniment near the stage during the theater’s earliest years.

Today, the piano sits in our lobby for visitors to admire, though the upper panel revealing its inner workings is opened only occasionally or by request.

There’s something special about experiencing history through real things: being inside the Opera House, seeing an old piano up close, and imagining the music and performances that once filled the room -- and still do!
