TL;DR: I carved a Pulcinella Puppet!

I do so many history talks about Punch and Judy, but one thing that I've been missing is the ultimate visual aid to show Punch's heritage: a Pulcinella puppet! So, I decided to try my hand at carving my very own Pulcinella. I modeled him after my "Pixie Punch" by Miraiker's World of Puppets because I wanted this Pulcinella to look very much like *my* Punch's ancestor. A "Pixie Pulcinella", if you will! My respect for Miraiker's skills, already sky-high, has only grown from there.

To make this puppet, I had to do the carving, painting, and sewing myself...three skills I sorely lack. Thankfully Mr. Prof Petticoat had some tools and skills and was there to offer advice and a bit of hand-holding through the process. My wonderful mother offered extensive moral support and guidance on the sewing, Glyn Edwards Punch and Judy's book Successful Punch and Judy also has some good advice on puppet construction (buy his book!), and Professor James Punch and Judy was also a great source of encouragement and pro tips.

Looking forward to working Pulcinella into my next show!

Sometimes when life is feeling topsy-turvy, you just have to lean in and embrace the weird! Either that, or the summer heat and smoke have gotten to my head 😅

Had some wonderful, energetic audiences at Fort Nisqually Brigade Encampment on Saturday - the marquee tent was overflowing! Two more chances to join in the fun today, shows at 11:30 and 2:30!

Saturday is fast approaching and the weather should be beautiful! We hope you can join us at Wapato Park for the Puget Sound Revels Summer Solstice Celebration from noon to 3:00PM.

There will be lawn games, an opportunity to sing and dance, and of course the Punch and Judy show! See the map for a more detailed location. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, and a picnic lunch. Hope to see you there!

Hey, Tacoma! I'll be bringing Punch and Judy to Wapato Park on Saturday, June 20th, and you're invited!
